Odd moments like this detract from but fortunately do not undermine a powerful film.
Furmann has pale blue eyes that shine out intensely in the dark sewer scenes, communicating outrage, sorrow, panic, and caged macho.
Leopold risks not only his own life, but also that of his entire family, by assisting the survival of anyone Jewish.
