Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
This is a slight, (16 pages), and engaging view of two soon-to-be college freshmen who are "running down the clock" as they wait for summer to end and their new lives to begin. The insights offered up are small but significant, and the tone of wistful, yet vaguely hopeful, melancholy is pitch perfect. Every now and then the story drifts perilously close to being dismissive in a "whatever" kind of way, but the author's respect for his characters and for the odd, brief, conflicted stage they find themselves in, carries you forward. There is no great drama and there are no sudden or compelling twists or epiphanies. This is a snapshot, but it is a sharp and well composed snapshot, and, to me at least, a very nice piece of writing.

An engaging short story that I can identify with. It gets your attention from the beginning. The characters are easy to get to know. I am interested in reading more from this author.
