Editorial Reviews

From the Artist

"Of all the `out' pianists in Yamamoto's spiritual lineage, she is the most delicate and the most unabashedly sunny ... her `out' playing is persistently beautiful. These duets glow." -- PopMatters "Great new jazz record alert! ... It feels wide and expansive, calming and tranquil. A wonderful listen from start to finish." -- Other Music "She has developed a style that is laced with subtle colors that can rise as she blends notes in unexpected ways. The style rewards close attention. And as a seasoned bar player, Ms. Yamamoto knows how to plant flowers in the dustbin." -- New York Sun

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful By John C. Graham on March 2, 2010
Format: Audio CD
The Eri Yamamoto Trio follows in the tradition of the earlier Keith Jarrett and Bill Evans Trios. The music on this disc is alternately ruminative and brooding to joyous and celebratory, beautifully lyrical and painfully sensitive.

Eri Yamamoto has defined herself as a caring and thoughtful performer, someone to closely listen to. This beautifully recorded studio session is evidence enough that she is on the right track and at the top of her game. With Dave Ambrosio on bass and Ikuo Takeuchi playing drums, they've cast themselves as worthy decendants in the piano trio lineage.

Of the ten tunes included, half of them come from the experiences of living in New York City, the remainder were written for a black and white silent film from 1932 entitled 'I was born, but...' directed by Yasujiro Ozu. Recommended to anyone who enjoys the pleasures of fine piano trios. This one will put a smile on your face!
