More About the Author

Ever since childhood, I have enjoyed reading stories as an escape from life. When I was a teenager I started to write my own stories that kept me entertained whenever I ran out of books to read. When I was accepted into Illinois Summer School for the Arts in my Junior year of High School, I knew I wanted to become a writer. I graduated from Illinois State University in December 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and began my teaching career, hoping to find moments to write in my free time.

After seven years of teaching, I decided to focus on my writing and made the decision to put my teaching years behind me so that I could create the stories I had always dreamed of. I am now happily married and a stay at home mom. I try my best to master the art of multitasking to get everything accomplished and write in any spare moment I can find.

The debut of author Elissa Daye in this published work of paranormal is a welcome addition to my book shelf! I've enjoyed Elissa Daye's vivid writing online in her blog and in short stories published online, and it is fantastic to be able to have an entire novel of her work.

Lysandra is a layered heroine whose sheltered world is ripped from her, and she has to call on all of her sources of inner strength to find her way in a cruel world and in dark situations, learning and experiencing new things she could have never dreamed. And while the mysterious and tortured Aiden may offer an avenue of escape, she soon finds that she may have traded one danger for another - all the while having to maintain a secret about herself.

It's a steamy read, as well as being an enjoyably multi-faceted story, that gets deliciously hot in places. I thought the hotter scenes did a great job of advancing the plot and themes of the book, like a great musical number in a musical. You get romance, witches, werewolves and also a young woman's personal journey on finding her own way in the world and reclaiming herself and her own worth. I was thrilled by the plot (especially the climatic ending) and was charmed by the strong characterization of the lead character. I also was greatly intrigued with the world that is built in this book and look forward to its further exploration in following books in this series.

The book starts out in the Outlands 1342. A man with desires stops by this town and finds a pretty young thing waiting. He beds her, never seemingly to get enough of her...yet, he holds a secret; He is married. When she begins to fall in love with him and wants to make wedding plans, he bursts her bubble by telling her that he can't marry her because he's already married. He figures he could have his cake and eat it too. The woman didn't think so, and puts a curse on him. "I curse thee! From this day forward, you will forever be followed by the beast that lies within your heart! The power of Lena take thee!"

Hundreds of years later, a young girl, Lysandra loses her parents to an overbearing uncle and aunt, ones who don't care for the girl. They enslave her, beating her and making her feel and be weak, breaking her. Then a young man by the name of Bradford comes to them and frees her, saying that the man for whom he works for wishes to buy her. The aunt and uncle sell her to the man. While on route to where they are going, she notices the wolf in the forest.

She is taken to a place where she is basically sold into prostitution for this man. She's a virgin, bought because of her innocence, so she is given a sort of training course in how to act around the men. She knows she's not going to like it here, but anything seemed better than being where she had been...with her mean aunt and uncle.

Turns out this isn't any better. The woman who is "training" her, getting her ready to become like the other women there, becomes jealous of the attention that Lysandra has been receiving fromt he patrons. The woman decides that this girl has to go, and "tells" the man who bought her that she should be sold because a virgin would get more money for them.

Lord Aestov is in lust. His lust is for Bridget, he has wanted her ever since he set eyes on her.
After chasing her for a while they begin a passionate affair. Unfortunately for Bridget he is married and will never be hers.
Heartbroken by his betrayal she curses his people.
The lives of the people of Blackwolf Keep will carry this curse until the time someone carrying the same blood as Bridget can break it.
Many years after the curse is cast we are taken to Elkiss Keep.
An attack on the Keep is about to happen, led by the Lord’s own brother.
Lysandra is left without her parents and taken captive by her cruel uncle.
Her Aunt soon sells her into slavery where she has to deal with all sorts of men trying to take her virtue.
She is put up for auction by her owner and sold to Aiden Quinn.
This story tells of their relationship and how they soon learn it is their destiny to be together.
This is one of those love stories that you immediately want to have a happy ending.
After reading such tragedy at the beginning there had to be something special that came from it.
The two main characters Lysandra and Aiden are written so well you feel they are meant to be. I like that!
With lots of strong characters and a story of love and intrigue I was easily drawn in.
The sex scenes are very well written, not too erotic and perfect for the characters situation.
Magical powers feature strongly in this story but are not too over the top as to overwhelm, leaving the characters to build up their inclusion into the story perfectly.
I love a book full of mystic and strong, passionate women.
I’m recommending this book to fantasy and romance lovers, it has everything.

I received a copy of this book from the author for a review. At first I was a little unsure, the two chapters were a little hard for me to get into...but as the story began unfolding I couldn't stop reading. I found myself carrying my e-reader to the kitchen with me so I could read and cook at the same time. I love how Lysandra's magic is tied to her heart, her love and emotions.

When Lysandra's family is murdered she is sold as a slave. Fear grips her when she discovers her new master's plans for her future. He sells her to the highest bidder because she has remained untouched. Now she is in a whole new environment with one stranger in particular that looks upon her with disgust.

Adian, her new master, has a secret and it has something to do with the cylce of the moon.

If you are looking for a good read that deals with magic and werewolves, look no further. I cannot wait to read more from this author.
