Customer Reviews

I purchased this book to read with my granddaughter.
Diane L. Patterson
She is now outgrowing most of her early board books but this one remains on the shelf and we still read it at nap time.
Linda Sullivan
This is a sweet book and tells the story about the love that a grandma has for her granchild.

Our daughter really likes the pictures and I love the message that promotes the benefits of reading. In the story, the granddaughter goes on magical adventures whenever she is in Grandma's arms sitting in her storybook chair through all the wonderful books they read together. I agree with other reviewers that dislike the sterotypical grandmother depiction; my mother is in her mid-fifties with blond hair and is not a little frumpy woman with gray hair and a housedress. In my opinion, most grandmas today are more contemporary than depicted in this book.

I think people are overreacting and taking the old Grandma thing too personally. This is an absolutely DELIGHTFUL book!!!! I LOVE The last page. . .I can FLY!!! It is well written, beautiful vivid colors and captivates my son (aka mr. ants in the pants) until the end which is saying a lot. Not sure why there aren't more reviews on this, but I'm glad I found it!

I have a favorite book that I give to all my new mother friends called The Way Mother's Are and now I have a favorite for all of my new grandma friends. The title says it all - anything is possible in Grandma's Arms. Just the thought of holding my grandbaby in my arms, reading to him and sharing imaginary travel - this is happiness!

I originally purchased the book at the suggestion of a neighbor who's grandchildren loved to crawl up in her lap and have her read it over and over. Yep, she was correct, my five year old granddaughter still loves it. Been reading it to her for 3 years. She knows the story but still wants me to read it and she helps. Good sturdy construction. I give it as a gift to new Grandma's often. Amazon gets it to me or to them quickly. Happy Grandma.

This book is a favorite with my grandchildren. I bought extras to share with friends who were becoming grandmothers for the first time. Quick delivery and exceptional quality.

We love this book. The rhythm and images it creates in little minds are sweet and soothing. Very sweet little story.

Jayne C. Shelton, In Grandma's Arms (Cartwheel Books, 2001)

Cute little item about the power of stories in the hands of the right teller. Surprisingly long, and more complex than the usual board book, which makes me happy. On the other hand, the rhyme scheme feels forced on occasion (not often), and the rhythm stumbles a time or two (again, not often). Recommended for slightly older children, those who are actively learning to read rather than the pre-lit set in general, but well-done illustrations and a soothing rhythm should be workable for infants as well. ***
