The smooth guitar stylings of Jim Crabbe are the haunting core of the Galaxy Trio. His version of Fur Elise is a classic destined to linger in the memory forever. I have heard that Jim Crabbe is a radical surfer who would rather spend his time on his longboard. I just hope he gets out of the water long enough to make another recording.

I mostly listen to jazz but I have a soft spot for surf music. Simply put The Galaxy Trio's two short cd's - In the Harem and Saucers over Vegas- are amongst the best ever recorded in this genre. No disrespect to The Ventures, whom I love as well, and are pioneers of the surf music genre, but, these cd's having been recorded in the 1990's, have serious edge to them while remaining true to surf music aesthetic. I think their sound is somewhere between The Ventures and Agent Orange's Pipeline. I saw The Galaxy Trio in the mid 1990's at a show where they opened up for Man or Astroman. I think most people at the show had never heard of them( as was the case for me as well) and weren't surf fans, but, after a couple of tunes everyone was just mesmerized and totally into the music. If you are a surf music fan, I would consider both Galaxy Trio cd's essentially to any collection.

Back in the day there was nothing more fun than dancing to the sweet surf sounds of Galaxy Trio live here in Portland, OR. Getting to be involved in the photo shoot for the cover (set decoration and one of the chicks - far right) was fabulous!
Great record - get it while it is still available on vinyl.
