Product Description

Won Seven Golden Globes and based on the critically acclaimed novel and award winning film, the series takes an honest look at life in the new South. Bill Gillespie (Carroll O'Connor), a southern white, small-town sheriff and a black detective put their racial animosity aside to solve crimes in a Mississippi hamlet. A tense drama about the navigation through tricky small-town politics where racial tensions run high.

I was delighted to finally see this Series released on DVD. I had never heard of TGG Direct but this was a no brainer for me since this is one of my favorite programs. I have only watched the first disc so far, however the picture and audio quality seem to be just fine. I did notice a few little minor irritants. First of all the artwork on the front is a little grainy (I am confused by the large city silouhette located on a large body of water depicted under the cast photo), they used plain black cases similar to those used for single DVD releases, and the DVD labels look like something one could make at home. Also a little annoying, you can choose a show from the main menu however after the show you select is done the next episode strarts playing as a DVD with "play all" option would rather than going back to the main menu. More annoying, the episode play time does not start at 0 seconds except for the first episode on each disc as it normally would. For example if episode one was 49:26 mins episode 2 would start at 49:27 and if episode 2 were 48:00 mins episode 3 would start at 1 39:28 thus you really don't have any idea if the episode is almost done or not (I like to have and idea). Naturally the packaging is not up to major studio standards, but TGG Direct came though where it counts releasing this show with good picture quality. I hope they follow up with the rest of the Season sets priced reasonably as they did with this one.

In The Heat Of The Night is a 1988 television series based on a film and a novel and stars Carrol 'O Connor as the quick witted Chief Bill Gillespie along with his adopted son Hugh as Lonnie Jamison. The series is nothing short of brilliant and is deeply engaging. Much like it's source, it centers around the extremely rural city of Sparta, Mississippi, it's police force, and the crooks who think they can get away with it.

The show dealt with some pretty heavy handed issues such as rape, government corruption, homophobia, and racism. Fairly forward thinking considering that it came out two years before the extremely successful Law & Order series.

I have been looking to purchase this series for a long time. I am so glad someone finally release it to the general public. I can only hope the rest of the series will follow. This show has touched the hearts of everyone who has watched it over the years. Many of the actors are no longer with us, but their work can live on thru these episodes. Someone once said on this show as long as we have memories then the person will always be with us.

In the heat of the Night is a favorite series and I'm excited to receive all the seasons. Season 1 is not my favorite because the characters were not fully developed and because of where it was filmed. The remainder of the entire series was filmed in Covington, GA - a beautiful, quaint city and all the lovely homes, courthouse, town square, hospital, schools and churches really exist. I hope that all the seasons will be available.

This is my favorite movie to watch.. However, no CC for the hearing impaired. Also, I ordered First Season: The movies are Pilot I Blind Spot, Pilot 2 Blind Spot part 2, Road Kill, A necessary evil, Fate, And then you die. I also ordered Season One, Volume 2, Episodes 5-8 and they are the same movies, except for there is no Fate. So, I purchased 2 videos and got the same movies. That's just wrong.

This was a wonderful show with top notch acting from all. Carroll O'Connor was one of the best actors of his time. Everyone take notice that another DVD with 24 hours of shows has been released. You'll notice it now on Amazon. I pre-ordered it a few weeks ago and expect it to arrive in the next week or so. Can't wait to have a major "Heat" marathon!

The episodes during the 1st season seemed like long movies. The storylines were unduly complicated and not entertaining. In addition, in my set, they added a movie that was FILMED YEARS after the pilot so the cast for the movie are different than the cast of the original heat of the night. In later seasons, they add more comedy from Carroll O'Connor and Rollins which made the show better.
