5.0 out of 5 stars In Light of Eternity - a must read! December 23, 1999
This book is a must read. The five pages of Chapter 23 are worth the price of the book. It makes heaven, our real home, come alive. Full of very significant counsel on how to live "in light of eternity". A wonderful book for those who have terminal illnesses or who are dealing with the death of a friend or loved one. We gave out 20 to family members on the death of my mother in law. With the authors permission I quoted extensively from the book for a funeral message and had very positive feedback from those in attendance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read At Your Own Risk April 11, 2002
This book had me reading a few lines and then staring into space because what I was reading was so profound that I could only read it in small doses, with intervals of digestion. I have a completely different view of my earthly life because of my new view of my eternal life. If you are a complacent Christian, one who takes salvation for granted, beware. This book will change you in ways that give you a new heart, new eyes and a new perspective on your future. You will not be the same. You will view the evening news and the headlines in your favorite newspaper from a totally different perspective - the one of Heaven. I will live with my Lord for ever. This life on earth and its cares are so fleeting and our purpose here gets lost in all our busyness. As a bride prepares for her marriage and a mother prepares for the birth of her child, the remainder of my life will be spent in preparation for my eternity. I pray to see you there. Oh that He would say "Well done . . . ."

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank Heavens It's Not All Harps and Clouds! April 11, 2001
This is a non-fiction book you have a hard time putting down! I've always looked forward to heaven because I'll get to be with my Savior. But to be honest, the traditional view of standing around singing all day (and I love to sing!) didn't really appeal to me straight away. I always said, "Well, I'm sure I'll feel differently about that once I get there." In Light of Eternity uses scripture to show that heaven is more than praising God in's praising Him with the continued work of our hands and hearts, it's fellowship with other citizens of the City Foursquare, it's community...all in the light of God's loving presence. "What a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see!" And how much more significant the choices we make here on earth become, knowing that nothing is wasted. --Lisa Samson, author of The Church Ladies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gets you ready for Heaven March 8, 2004
By A Customer
I am terminally ill and a friend sent me this book. It's really a gem, and has lifted my spirits quite a bit. I would recommend this to any Christian who is searching for answers about what Heaven will be like. Scriptures are all included to back up this author's ideas and opinions. I loved this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Treatise!!! January 14, 2005
Randy Alcorn has written a wonderful introduction to the topic of Heaven, and for those of you interested, you can check out his recent bestseller -"Heaven," which expands on this topic. But "In Light of Eternity" is a great study, and it focuses on the obvious - where are you going to spend the afterlife, and what you do in this life will carry over into the next - Heaven or Hell.

Quoting periodically from C.S. Lewis, and his Alcorn's other fictional accounts of Heaven from novels such as "Deadline," "Dominion," "Edge of Eternity," and "Safely Home," he provides a very provocative look in a rare topic of discussion for today's Christian. And I can tell you that it helped me to keep my eye on Christ and to measure everything I do now with how it will affect me in Heaven.

A great book and incredibly recommended!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Required Reading October 7, 2002
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Alcorn collects from his own novels many intriguing comments and portraits of heaven-- then explains and defends his ideas. The result is so biblically sound, so rationally compelling and emotionally moving, that I sell this book at a loss at my church and office, give it as prizes to my students, and shamelessly quote from it in my own sermons and lectures. In Light of Eternity is one of those compact little bombs that occasionally explode in our lives, after which we are never the same. At least I hope I will never be the same. I may never live up to my own hopes and fervent desires, kindled by this book and others like it (Desiring God by John Piper comes to mind), but for the rest of my earthly life, I bend all my will to that end. This is "pure spiritual milk" for those who want to nurture in themselves an apostolic heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can see more of the light January 30, 2001
I haven't really thought about Heaven very much. I read the novels "Deaadline" and "Dominion" and found myself wanting to know more about Heaven. I saw this book in one of the recommendation links and I am glad that I picked it up. I read it through in a few days and was greatly encouraged by it. I went back and read through it again and looked up the Scripture passages. I never realized that there was so much about Heaven in the Scriptures that I overlooked. For any Christian, this is a book to read and be encouraged. It will help sustain you when the times get rough by helping to keep your eye on the prize at the end of the race. For the non-Christian, this book will help you see the promises that God gives to us through His Son.
I have gone through the book a few times now and still find new information about my home in the Scripture passages. It is not only an encouraging book to read for the Christian, it is also a helpful tool with evangelism. You don't have to pound doors to evangelize, you do so with your life. When people ask you about your hope, you can use the information in this book to tell people about the home that you will be going to and, with the Lord's help, this could set a spark off in their heart to know more.
I am glad that I got this book. I know that I will still go over it a few more times. It helps to refresh me when times are looking dark. I would recommend this book for you, no matter who you are.
