Book Description

A young couple, a friendly beachcomber, lots of bullets and plenty of death. It all starts innocently enough with Carrie and her new boyfriend driving her father’s RV to south Texas. When they get stuck in the sand on Boca Chica beach, Leo, a seemingly easy-going local, comes to their rescue and pulls them out. But after midnight, a wounded and far more intense Leo returns, now hunted by killers. Gun in hand, he forces the couple to help him escape. Once they’re back on the road, the danger–and number of enemies–grows. Leo and Carrie, tightly held In the Lion’s Mouth, face a harrowing gauntlet of secrets stretching from Texas to the streets of Matamoros. A fast-paced thriller with colorful characters from both sides of the border.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of characters, lots of twists December 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
At first, I was not overly impressed by the first chapter or two, which came across as somewhat disjointed. But after a few more chapters, it really began to come together with more polish and finesse, and quickly turns into quite an exciting and intense action/adventure. Virtually all characters are kind of seedy, so you don't really know who can be trusted. Makes for a roller coaster ride of events... shootouts, burglaries, evading several teams of bad guys and girls, stolen cars, and more shootouts. The author deftly ties together the overlapping relationships of multiple characters as the story line progresses, and it all builds up to a finale that involves all the main players. Good quick read, with a pretty decent plot. Quick pace that kept me interested.

5.0 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS, February 11, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I don't give many five star ratings, but this had me anxiously reading way into the nights to see how it all came out. Two different scenarios, weapons dealers and drug runners tie together so nicely in the end. You don't know who is with whom while you're reading through the twists and turns. You will come to love the two main characters, who have been thrown together accidentally to cooperate in trying to solve the mystery of the situation they find themselves in. They are always in a fix of one kind or another, as the story fascinatingly unfolds. Many other colorful characters come to light to round it all out perfectly. The cartel is a touch bunch to deal with, having no mercy for anyone. Great story; talented author. Get this book and enjoy a couple of relaxing days, being thankful you're not in the characters' shoes yourselves for real!

5.0 out of 5 stars Drugs, Guns and Sand December 29, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The only time I stopped reading this book was to sleep. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and just couldn't put it down. A fun, quick read that features an unlikely pair of protagonists and a herd of secondary characters. Plus, it has gun-running, dug-dealing and greasy diners on both sides of the Rio Grande. Add to that the ever-present sand in that part of Texas, and you know you're reading a story from an author who knows the territory.

I enjoyed the original and creative story line. This was not your run-of-the-mill suspense action thriller. I also like that it engendered suspicion in the reader from almost the first page. Just that kind of something isn't quite right feeling that made you want to read on.

I was very close to rating this book a 5 star. There were some scenes that might not have been necessary to tell the story, some which I found perhaps a little dry. The beginning and the end were really exciting. There was just sort of a part in the middle where there could've been a bit more action. It just seemed like a lot of waiting around and surveillance.

But for you suspense fans, there were plenty of twists and turns and surprises.

4.0 out of 5 stars The action never stops January 20, 2014

I am brand new to this author's works but can tell she's gonna be a favorite. This story has more twists and turns than a snake slithering across hot pavement in August! The characters in this book are so real I want to visit them (well not the bad guys) and hope they will show up again in another book. Well written and interesting. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I enjoyed this quick read. Her descriptive writing pulled me right in to the story & I didn't want to stop. As a matter of fact, I didn't!! I read the entire book in one afternoon and enjoyed being swept away into the action. I love references to places and things I am familiar with. Looking forward to reading more from this talented woman.
