There are so many things I could say about this show. I have been dying for a way to watch Season 4. It originally airs on Showcase, but since they are a Canadian station, we have to wait the 3 or more months it takes to come out on Syfy in the US. Right now they are on Episode 12 while we are just seeing the premier.

I was hooked from the first episode when I saw it on Netflix. I have always been a fan of all things supernatural so this was an easy match for my taste. But, you also have to know a few things about it before you start watching it. If you are into the super dark, serious side of the underworld, then this may not be the show for you. It is definitely dark, but on the less serious side, with much of the dialogue dripping with sarcasm and sexual undertones. (If you have ANY qualms about open or same sex relationships, this is DEFINITELY not the show for you). But you will not find a more loyal clique of characters who will honestly do anything it takes for the people they care about. The actors definitely fit their individual parts and each one has their own endearing qualities. There are more than a few that you love to hate, but each still has their own place in your heart once you get to know them.

All in all, this is a great show, with a unique plot. It keeps you on your toes, for sure, and never gets old or boring like the writers are struggling to keep the story going. I would definitely recommend it.

--Contains spoilers--

Lost Girl is a guilty pleasure of mine. I went through the first three seasons with a certain popcorn-saturated glee. Then I got to season four and it seemed like the writers just started phoning it in.

I can understand the need to shake things up, but it was too much, too close together. Especially in the last two episodes, the plot became a scattershot mess. It was as if the writer went into the producer’s office and said, “I have an idea for an episode: Bo’s father turns out to be Darth Vader with a sled named Rosebud, made out of Soylent Green and he has actually been a ghost the whole time.” The producer should have said “No,” or at least “Go home and sleep it off, you’re drunk.”

Three characters die during the season. The first was very well done; the other two seemed like afterthoughts. It was doubly painful because Kenzie was my favorite character. Let me clarify, her death was not painful. It was painful to see her killed off in such an uncaring fashion. She walks to her sacrifice in slow motion with the battle raging around her and the sad music playing, but all I can think is “Oh come on.” They tried to tug the heartstrings of the audience without earning it first and ended up pulling my leg instead.

If you are going to have a dramatic event, you need to foreshadow it. Hale’s death was well done. They set up how the killer would be able to pull it off and why he did it. Rainer’s was only done to get rid of a character that had become inconvenient to the love triangle they had established. Kenzie’s was lazy writing.

If you have a gun that goes off in act three, you need to put it on the mantle in act one. If you’ve established that the gun is a pistol, don’t have it fire artillery shells.

I have enjoyed Lost Girl since the 1st episode of the 1st season, however, season 4 has been very disjointed. It almost seems as if the writers are having trouble putting together a cohesive season. We are seeing less of Kenzi. Dyson doesn't really have much to do, ect...

***SPOILERS (sort of, tried not to give details)***
The 1st 3 seasons developed some interesting relationships & season 4 seems to just be tearing them apart, but for no reason.
A loved character has been killed.
Kenzi & Bo's friendship is on the rocks.
The Wanderer storyline isn't making a ton of sense, so far (at least to me).
We hardly see Vex (who I think is a great character).
Dyson has turned into a self - pitying, "neutered" wolf :(
Not sure what is up with Trick?!
Bo is just blindly following the Wanderer which goes against her independence (that she had been so proud of for the first 3 years).

5 stars for the show. -1 star for Amazon's season pass pricing.

Amazon, please consider making your season pass pricing more competitive with your main rival in instant video. Checking on IMDB, it looks like this is going to be another 13 episode season. If that's the case, your 5% discount per episode for buying a season pass has the total cost per season nearly $10 more expensive than their flat cost per season pass. Your discount would need to be 30% per episode to be near their pricing. If the show ends up having more than 13 episodes, it'll end up being even more lopsided.

I'd rather buy from you to avoid being stuck on their branded products, but a 25% per episode higher price seems a bit much.

I have bought all the other seasons. And with the DVD's you get bloopers and extras that didn't come with the down loaded versions. Also, there are scenes deleted from the American versions on SYFI that appear on the Canadian episodes that I am not sure will be on down loads - I think we get the Canadian versions with the discs. (fingers crossed)

As far as Season 4 went - what a cluster (bleep)! I get it - Anna Silk gave birth and she was on Maternity during the first three episodes while she got her body back, but still...OMG. It was like watching the whole season through a prism or as a mosaic of story plots with a lot of space between the tiles. I feel like we needed about five more episodes this season to explain what was going on.

For example: If Lauren is on the run - why did she stay in the country? She should have gone back to the Congo.
Why did Trick come back weren't they trying to kill him end of last season? Bo's mother was there and then back to Orphan Black she went (Inga Cadranel is on that show in a big way - I think they need to re-cast for Lost Girl)

Don't get me wrong - if you follow this show - you probably cried two or three times - and yelled at the writers about four or five times. So you will need to buy this season to keep yourself up to date. Syfi - doesn't do re-runs they have 9 commercials during every break (which is why the US version is shorter than the Canadian by 2.5 min) and they treat this show like a dirty step child but I bet they love the audience numbers.

See you for Season 5.
