Cable television’s Allen hosts the cooking competition Chopped, just one of a number of programs that have made his smiling face familiar to a wide audience of viewers. Mr. Allen was at our farmer's market today, with his books. After reading the reviews on amazon.com this morning, I knew I wanted to get over there to meet him and buy the book. Once home I opened it up and have not been able to put it down-- even as we are being deluged with a severe storm -- and have been busy deciding which recipe to make first. Actually, that was easy, as it will be the baked rice as I was already planning to make a great brown rice recipe tonight. Now I get to do it a new way.

I am an old lady who has many cook books and many issues of food magazines and pretty much don't buy new ones at this point because I find that when I do cook I seem to want to make an old favorite that I have not had in a long time. So, for me, the fact that this book makes me want to once again try new dishes speaks volumes about the appeal of the recipes, the pictures, the seeming ease of cooking, etc. Can't wait to get started, and this book is now on my list of what to give the nieces and nephews (and their spouses) for gifts. They will all love it, I am sure.

I love Ted Allen on screen, in person, and on the page. This book will not disappoint any foodie looking to pump up their repertoire in the kitchen. The strawberry bruschetta is simple but delicious and I'm attempting the lemon cake this weekend. Unlike most of my celebrity cookbooks (except Anne Burrell's Cook like a RockStar, which rocks!) where I find one or two recipes I'd actually make, every page in Ted Allen's In My Kitchen entices me to get in MY kitchen and cook. Thanks Ted!

I love Ted Allen. I love his reviews on Best Thing I Ever Ate. I figured he must know how to cook. I purchased this book, and could not put it down. I love to read cookbook's I purchase, cover to cover before I cook anything. This is a fantastic read! The tips he gives are priceless. You feel like you can totally envision what he is talking about. His instructions are clear and precise (and funny at times). The recipes are exactly what the title says. For passionate cooks! Thank you Ted Allen! I am so picky about the cookbooks I purchase, and this one will be my go to for just about everyday!

This cookbook can be used by beginners who need concise recipes that always deliver, seasoned cooks looking for fresh parings or for use of ingredients outside of their comfort zones as well as those looking to find those perfect dressings, herbs, cocktails, etc. that add polish to the food. Don't quite have that amazing watercress salad recipe you've always wanted? Are you bored with the same caprese salad when it comes to fresh mozarella? Are you bored with your ways of dressing up leftover chicken or chicken breasts? Ted Allen has you covered. That plus some great holiday recipes, starters and brunch foods. [Contents include starters, salads and sides, main courses, desserts and breakfast/ brunch.] And his partner Barry has contributed desserts, including a lemon cake with the best sponge I've ever made personally. Not to mention his chocolate-sour cream layer cake. I could go on- I've tried probably 20-30 recipes and/ or tips from the book.

Being a longtime foodie, there are many familiar recipes and ideas in this book. Yet I keep finding that Ted Allen put in the effort to add fresh ideas, useful tidbits (there are sidebar discussions in addition to the recipes), more ways to use farmer's market produce, recipes to expand into making your own (vinegar, pickled vegetables, ricotta), and a dedication to quality standards that I find it always inspiring and practical. In the few months that I've owned it, it has matched my longtime two favorite cookbooks and I consult it constantly, even when I have access to millions of recipes on the internet. I find it approximately equally useful for mid-week cooking and cooking for entertaining. Of course, with 100 recipes, don't expect a cooking "bible". There are many recipes you will not find in this book.

{Purchased outside of Amazon) Out of my library of over 100 cookbooks, this is one of my go-tos for nightly meals and parties alike. The recipes are broken down to the point that a novice could cook them, but also that a foodie could learn something. Most are made from ingredients you can find at any good grocery store, which is a plus, with some tips on buying the best ingredients. There are clear explanations as to why not to make substitutions when applicable. Definitely good to know! Not just mist and hype! Also sections where you can cook a chicken, then use the leftovers three ways, etc. The book is full of this kind of practical stuff that happens in our daily lives. "I made this for dinner last night... how do I turn it into breakfast?" All written with by a guy with one of the most affable affects on the planet. Meals that will impress your most critical guests, but not stress you for a second and become your weeknight go-to's, all written with a touch of humor and Ted Allen flair. Ideal cookbook. Buy it now!
