My son received this book as a gift at his baby shower.

I can't help but think that one day that little fish will grow up to have little fish of his own, with the optimism and courage to match.

The story is short and cute- perfect for her attention span.

I bought this book as a gift for a friend (but now I'm going to get one for our house too!). Its adorable. It has a little fish finger puppet at the back of the book...and the fish brings you around his pond to introduce you to everything in his pond (lily pads/grass/stones etc)...adorable!!!!! A must have for fishy lovers!! Perfect for preschoolers.

so simple, cute and beautiful. really pretty, vibrant illustrations and a simple message make this book one of our new favorites. clever concept. my children love that the fish moves, and it's very simple for the parent to manipulate. seems like high quality construction, that will hold up to years of wear. i'm purchasing others like it.

One thing I like about this simple little book is that it doesn't specify that the little fish's two parents, who appear at the end, are his mommy and daddy--he just has two parent figures (larger fish) that he calls "my family." It's surprising how hard it is to find kids' books that portray or could portray "alternative" families (the fish here could be mommy and stepdad, mommy and mommy, mommy and older sibling, etc) without being ABOUT the issue of alternative families. It's nice to have just the sweet image of a family with no labels.

This book resonates with me. The little fish's self-exploration about his own pond mimics my own innocent examination of the eco-system that i live in. Each time i read this to my son or daughter i instantly connect with him (mostly through the use of the finger hole in the back) and am transformed into this world with shiny surfaces and lily pads and (SPOILER ALERT!) Mommy and Daddy Fish. Thankfully left out of this book were the many perils of life as a small fish - the algae that depletes the Oxygen, the fishermen with their ominous hooks in the water, environmental waste.
This book has provided my family with hours of lasting entertainment, boundless optimism, and a child-like view of what lurks beneath the surface. I can't help but think that one day that little fish will grow up to have little fish of his own, with the optimism and courage to match. Bravo, little fish, bravo.

Our daughter LOVES this book. She'll be squirming and fussing reading something else and we pull out In My Pond, and she totally focuses on it. I don't know what it is but she really responds to this book.

This book is OK. Pictures are not real bright and my kids did not care much for it. Story is not real interesting but the little fish is cute.

These are great books because the baby loves the puppet being used in the story and the older kids enjoy telling these stories to the baby or each other.
