This is just another example of outstanding "Country Music" sung by a true artist. There are three remakes of old standards, that are better (in my opinion) than the original versions of the hits. There is some new material included as well. My favorite male vocalist of all time.

THIS IS ONCE AGAIN ANOTHER GREAT ALBUM FROM GENE. HE IS LIKE WINE HE GETS BETTER WITH TIME. IN MY OPINION HE IS THE GREATEST SINGER OF ALL TIME IN COUNTRY MUSIC. THERE ARE A COUPLE OF REMAKES THAT ARE BETTER THIS GO ROUND. THE NEW ARE JUST AS GOOD. I ONLY WISH COUNTRY MUSIC WOULD GO BACK TO IT'S ROOTS AND STOP ALLOWING "POP" AND "ROCK" AND CALLING THAT COUNTRY. GENE IS A CLASSIC. GREAT ALBUM. MUST BUY FOR TRUE "COUNTRY" MUSIC FANS!!!!

This CD is terrific - pure country - Gene Watson better with time.
I love the duets with Vince Gill, Rhonda Vincent, Lee Ann Womack.
I usually don't like artists covering songs that were big hits by other performers but "Together Again" and "Today I Started Loving You Again" are fantastic new interpretations of these classics. I absolutely loved them. All of the duets are fantastic and every song on this CD is amazing. It is too bad Gene Watson is not getting air play on the radio because this is a great CD. Anyone who is a Gene Watson fan will love this CD and anyone who loves pure country music will love it!!!

Format: Audio CD
Honkytonk balladeer Gene Watson is one of the growing legion of great country performers who had big hits not that long ago, but can't get their calls returned anymore by the newbie Nashville execs who are too busy planning Tim McGraw's next TV appearance. No matter: years ago Watson went indie and ever since then, even though he's off the radar, he's been putting out some of the finest hard-country albums around, pretty much like he did when he was hitting the charts.

Watson is a country singer's country singer, as evidenced by a testimonial from George Jones that's stuck onto the outside of this album, and by the calibre of talent that accompanies him on this guest-star extravaganza. Mark Chesnutt, Vince Gill, Lee Ann Womack and Connie Smith -- these are all artists who have straddled the divide between traditional country and whatever pop compromises the times demanded of them, and they all bring their full powers to bear on this fine album, as do Joe Nichols and Rhonda Vincent, artists whose stars are currently on the rise. No one outshines Watson, though, particularly on searing ballads such as "A Good Place To Turn Around," "She's Already Gone," and "Let Me Be The First To Go." Gene Watson is one of those true, great honkytonkers who can find the true core of pathos and sorrow, yet sing it out in a way that makes it seem like times ain't gonna be so bad after all. This is a true country lover's delight, with one fine performance after another -- it you like old-school honkytonk and like it when artists keep things real, then cast your vote and pick this album up. It's the kinda stuff you want to hear. (DJ Joe Sixpack, Slipcue country reviews)

I had been counting the days since I found out that this new CD was
coming out on Sept. 27th worldwide and I received it from Amazon early
this week. On the backcover of the CD it says. "Gene Watson is widely
considered the finest pure C&W singer of his generation" This is
exactly what he is. Whether you listen to a Watson song from the 70's,
the 80's or right now in 2007, the way he sings country is like he
did then. He's so truthful to the roots of what C&W is supposed to be
so that he deserves a statue in Nashville. On other reviews I mentioned
that in quiet a short time I've gathered all G.Watson CD's available
(all through Amazon...)and I've never spent my money so well!
This CD in particular is as good or slightly better than the one
before (Now and Then) and that was already given 5 big and thick stars.
Since Gene releases a new record every 2 years (2001, 2003, 2005, 2007)
I'm already looking forward to 2009! In the meantime I'll be playing
"In A Perfect World" and all his previous releases constantly. At
least he hasn't been swallowed by those hard rockin' Nashville artists
that have been screwing up country music since 1990!!

This may be Gene Watson's best album ever, and that's saying a lot, because anything you buy from him is great.
But he's got several duets on this one, and they're all just terrific. Joe Nichols, for one, on "In A Perfect World," blends so well with his voice that you don't really hear two different voices - you just hear that fantastic harmony, which makes the sound just sublime.
And then Vince Gill - on "Let Me Be The First To Go," which is also great.
And the icing on the cake, Lee Ann Womack, on "Today I Started Loving You Again." So many, and they're all so good, but maybe the most beautiful of all is "Together Again," with Rhonda Vincent.
He's got another duet album with her, just the two of them together, but this song, I think, is their best.
Anyhow, we're so lucky to have Gene Watson around, being so prolific and all - so that we have all of these wonderful records to listen to, and he's still going strong.
More Power To Him.
