This is a re-issue of a live performance at the Hungry I in San Francisco that was originally released in 1962 on Mercury. It contains some of Frank's best recorded work. His uptempo rendering of "I'll Remember April" is in my opinion, the definitive version of this standard. Every fan of vocal jazz should have this recording in their collection.

Frank D'Rone, was THE TOAST OF THE TOWN ( San Francisco )in the early 60's. I saw him open for Lenny Bruce at the Off Broadway or Basin Street West? At that time,
he was in his late 20's. I remembered that he introduced everybody that he was associated with, included his hair stylist. Then I heard him sing, right there, I knew why everybody was praising his vocal and guitar talents. This live performance is excellent all around;with an extra Guitar;Eddie Duran?,Piano;Al Plank?,Bass;Dean Reilly?,Drums;Benny Barth? or,Johnny Markum?or Earl Watkins? In other word's;I'm,GUESSING.
This CD did NOT give credit to the other Musicians. I just named the Musicians that were making the round's at the Club's back then. All the song's are very familiar Standard's that most of us would love to hear again and again, especially , D'Rone's versions. He's a Jazz/Cabaret/Pop Singer with an ORIGINAL SOUND!
If you want to hear him, first, check his Web Site or YouTube. He's in his late 70's now, and still sound's the same. I knew a famous singer that died recently, and he didn't have much of that wonderful voice left, and at that time,he was about the same age as D'Rone,is now a day's. . . . D'Rone is a lucky guy to still have that YOUNG VOICE ! ! ! The arrangements are put together well. They put a lot of thought to these tunes, clean and neat.
The CD does give credit to the Stereo sound engineer Reice Hamal , 15 inches per second;on a 3 channel Ampex recorder. You hear the best live recording I've ever heard. The Club is the Famous,Hungry I. By the way he had a hit some time back,"Bluesette"( Toots Thielesmans/Jean Baptist )
This is what you call a perfect Album! It's a little over 36 minutes, but worth having.
