Book Description

Much more than a paean to the "game of kings", this collection of poems explores the human side of chess, sweeping up war, death and aging as well as Sudoku, Las Vegas tournaments and nice cups of tea. It includes a close look at the characterful expressions and imagined inner lives of one of the most famous chess sets in history, The Lewis Chessmen of Scotland.

5.0 out of 5 stars The future looks bright for Poetry August 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I love that you can get poetry of this caliber as a PDF, due to not having a Kindle. I knew all ready the work of this poet from his book Human Shade so was surprised to see these poems for the low price.

It is a testament to poets and writers like Robert Peake who share their work for us to enjoy at the click of a button. In this imaginative collection, we are opened up to a world of creative language using chess pieces and moves as a symbol for the human spirit from war to an aging father. Peake manages to touch on strong subjects with gripping images that will stay with you for days.

The stunning images and rhythm of the six sonnets in the poem `In Pieces- after The Lewis Chessmen,' will leave you lusting for more of Peakes poetry. A long poem of the highest quality with striking lines such as `She is worry cut from walrus tusk, marbled and polished crystalline.' at the beginning of the fifth poem `Queen' will leave your heart pounding and panting for more of his astonishing lyrical writing.

A brilliant little poetry book to be cherished and added to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crafting an Experience August 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This author works hard to craft your experience from the start of a sentence to the end of the line. There is care in the words. I enjoyed this collection, and the price. A low price means easy to check out with minimal risk.
