In a Rut -How to Get back on Track- by Frank Long
Book review written by Jackie Paulson © 2012
Frank Long talks about how to create your own vision for your life. We all have a choice to disallow discontentment from our lives. It is much easier to stay in our comfort zone and not venture out and try new things or take new risks. I know this is true the older I get, and I am in my forties already!
The first step is to set new goals for ourselves. For example the author talks about what we can and cannot say to ourselves.
"I want to write a book" becomes "I want to have a solid book outline by the end of the month." If we break our tasks, goals down then it is easier to follow through. I know this is true because I get overwhelmed. I have two books ready to publish, and between working full time and all of life's demands, I won't accomplish this goal until I sit down and write it down in steps.
Step two is to organize your time. The author says, "Time management is possible; you can only manage how you spend the time you are given. Instead of trying to push through the fourth dimension into the string theorists' haunt you should focus on what is crippling your day and retarding your progression to achieving your goals in life."
He mentions that when we talk out loud to others of our goals, then will become a reality.
The third step is to always stay positive. For example, Nike's slogan "Just Do It." This is a term you need to say to yourself every single day!
The forth step besides staying optimistic is to Believe in yourself. If you have to hand up post it notes all over the place, stay positive and believe in YOU.
* Become a leader not a follower
* Think Big
* Take Action and Keep Acting
* Take Control of your destiny

* Learn to Accept Failure nobody is perfect.
* If you don't succeed, try it again.
* Remove fear.
Re- evaluate your circle. We can all choose to pick our friends. It is important to have friends that support you and never judge you. It is also helpful to surround yourself with Like Minded people. "I always say Great minds think alike." If you are in a rut, you can get out of it. By reading this book and learning new techniques you can better prepare yourself for the rough patches in your life.
This book was very interesting and more of a self empowerment book. I have to say that I am glad I got this book for free from Amazon. I will keep this book on my hard drive for those times when I need my spirit lifted.
