A classic study by the authors of strategies they discovered occurring in very successful companies. Actually, the authors describe working circumstances that stimulate highly desirable behaviors, particularly, innovation. Peters and Waterman did not recognize the behavioral dynamics, of antecedents, behaviors and consequences, that brought about the behaviors they admire. They did describe the crucial role of a "champion" in protecting or even fostering innovative performances in industry. This book continues to be an important display of very valuable behaviors and relationships that make businesses (or other endeavors) highly successful. The observations they provide can be made useful, that is applicable by those who desire the behaviors they describe - like innovation - by being translated into behavioral terms. Specifically, Behavior Analysts could apply the four-term contingency to the situations described in this book to derive valid strategies to build and maintain highly valuable performances in business and industry - or even "Higher Education" - where innovation and other forms of excellent performances are (supposedly) desirable.

"In Search of Excellence" is a classic business book. Although the book was first printed almost 40 years ago, the author, Tom Peters, employs timeless examples of excellence in authentic business practices. Peters style is easy to read and follow; his real world examples and insights are truly critical for any high performing business.

A best seller when it was released, and still extremely useful as a core reading in the quasi-science of management. One of the five books I recommend to business students as "must reads".
