Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

What is the meaning of the cross? Illinois pastor Pritchard examines its significance from seven perspectives: what it meant to God, to Jesus, to Satan, to the world, to the church, for human sin and in heaven. But all of this comes after Pritchard analyzes a totally different list of seven: the seven sayings of Christ on the cross. These are both fine topics (with the analysis of Jesus' words making for a more original book), but they are in competition here. Lenten readers may wish to do what Pritchard should have done: divide his careful ruminations into two shorter devotionals, using one this Holy Week and one next year.

In a very ready to read style, while still drenched with meaning, Pritchard takes you on two journeys. The first one is quite familiar: the seven says of Christ from the cross. Not knew ground for theological authors, but rich with new insights.
The second trip was the "wild ride" I did not expect but soon realized I needed and will treasure always. Another set of seven points; ones I had never read or even considered before. We are invited to see what the cross meant to God, Jesus, Satan, individuals, the church, the world, and the future.
What a blessing! Read this book; take these journeys. The book will fulfill it title and give you a deeper meaning of Calvary.

I purchased the book upon a recommendation I received from a adult Sunday school teacher. I will tell you, this book was everything the person stated and then some! Not for the faint Christian looking for an easy God or an easy way, but definitely for the Christian who yearns not to be ashamed in the sight of the Lord. You will learn more about Calvary that you could imagine! It was very pleasant to read this over the Easter weekend. At an inexpensive price, I highly recommend you give it a try!

Rev. Pritchard may be disingenuous. I suspect he chose his tile, to place to be close to this in Amazon/Google searches:

http://www.amazon.com/Living-Shadow-Cross-Understanding-Resisting-ebook/dp/B00C4GTMBQ/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1402597372&sr=8-4&keywords=in+the+shadow+of+the+cross

Unlike the other scholarly books now documentng Christanty's actual history, Rev. Prichard has chosen to not use primary materials or a scholarly approach to his material. There are millions of faith-based tracts on his subject matter. I highly recommend that he, and those who admire the Christian enterprise (a word chosen by a prominent Christian historian)
read history with a less biased perspective.
