From Publishers Weekly

Romantic suspense writer Caroll (Fear No Evil) combines detective work ethics with construction site surroundings to build suspense and tension between two unlikely love interests. Homicide detective Maddox Bishop is an emotionally scarred man after entering a crime scene in his own home some 18 years earlier and finding his mother's dead body. Set on never opening his heart to a woman, Maddox can't seem to fight the growing bond developing between himself and a potential wrongdoer, Layla Taylor, a contractor and recent victim of heartbreak. Strong wills clash as the two discover they have to work together to unravel the escalating crimes of violence involving every one of Layla's personal and professional contacts. It takes loss of lives and relinquishment of everything, including significant past grievances toward parents, to move Maddox and Layla beyond bitterness before either can embrace a hopeful future. Caroll's work unfortunately does more telling than showing, and the result is a rather clumsily done wannabe love story that gives readers the facts but no feelings for the characters' plights. More About the Author

"I love boxing. I love Hallmark movies. I love fishing. I love scrapbooking. Nope, I've never fit into the boxes people have wanted to put me in." ~Robin Caroll is definitely a contradiction, but one that beckons you to get to know her better.

Born and raised in Louisiana, Robin is a southerner through and through. Her passion has always been to tell stories to entertain others. Robin's mother, bless her heart, is a genealogist who instilled in Robin the deep love of family and pride of heritage--two aspects Robin weaves into each of her 16 published novels. When she isn't writing, Robin spends time with her husband of twenty+ years, her three beautiful daughters and two handsome grandsons, and their character-filled pets at home--in the South, where else? She gives back to the writing community by serving as Conference Director for ACFW. Her books have finaled/placed in such contests as the Carol Award, Holt Medallion, RT Reviewer's Choice Award, Bookseller's Best, and Book of the Year.

On her faith, Robin says, "I love Jesus and will follow Him wherever He leads me."

An avid reader herself, Robin loves hearing from and chatting with other readers. Although her favorite genre to read is mystery/suspense, of course, she'll read just about any good story. Except historicals! To learn more about this author of deep South mysteries of suspense to inspire your heart, visit Robin's website at www.robincaroll.com.

Format: Paperback
In Eternal Springs, Louisiana, contractor Layla Taylor is stunned when a house she just completed is set on fire. Once the blaze is put out and the remains cooled down, a dead inspector is found inside. Detectives Maddox Bishop and Houston Wallace investigate the homicide-arson with Layla as the only link to both crimes besides the victim.

Maddox and Layla are attracted to one another from their first meeting. However, when more incidents including murder and arson occur, he knows the case comes first. He works diligently to keep Layla safe as she is the seeming focus that ties everything together, he does not want to have happen to her what happened to his mother almost two decades ago, which he still feels overwhelming guilt for not being home on time to protect her.

The latest Eternal Spring inspirational suspense thriller (see Deliver us From Evil and Fear No Evil) is a terrific police procedural with strong relationship bases. The sisters obviously love one another though disagree more than they agree on issues. The police partners provide strong support for each other on and off the job. Maddox with his remorse and guilt over his mom shapes his personality as he and Layla fall in love, but God is in their way as she believes strongly (as does her sibling) while he no longer accepts a deity who allowed a bad thing to happen to his mom. This occurs inside a strong investigation with an unexpected but plausible late twist as a serial killer-arsonist seems to target Layla.

What can I say? Robin has written another winner. I cannot express in words how wonderful this series is, and this is my second time through! I loved this story!! This is the story of Maddox Bishop, who we got to meet in Fear No Evil. Enter Layla and Alana Taylor, persons of interest in the newest investigation he is working. I love Layla's favorite line, "Oh splinters!" There's new evil lurking in Eternal Springs, and all I have to say is, I would want Maddox and his partner Houston on my side! This is Robin at her best. Romance, humor, suspense, all of my favorites. And a very good message about God as well :) This is a must read! Thank you Robin, and please keep them coming!!!!

Very well written! It shows how angry people can work with others to have a life free from anger and resentment. God is the answer sometimes we need guidance and help. The character's were real not phony acting. The sisters complimented each other in their belief in the Lord. Maddox was awesome a good example of opening up ones self to something more. Thank you Robin!

This author was new to me. I love Christian fiction suspense with some romance thrown in for good measure and this author did not disappoint. It addressed an issue that we should all be aware off. It was action packed and I loved the characters and the reference to scripture. I will purchase more of her books in the future!

I found the story to be very realistic and it captured my attention from the very first page...there is so much evil in our world today and it does start at them top most of the time. I enjoyed the story even more because there were no vulgar language or sexual overtures. I hope Robin Caroll keeps writing.

How often do you read a suspense novel and really have no idea who the perp is until the reveal? It doesn't happen often to me. This one did, though. Sure, I knew the pool of suspects, but I couldn't put my finger on the culprit. For that, I almost gave it four stars. But I only finished the book a week ago, and read one other in between, and yet when I realized I'd failed to review this one, I had to go read the description to find out what it was about. If it's that easily forgotten, then clearly the book didn't leave a four star imprint on my brain.

If you're reading my review, then you have already read the synopsis and know that the book is about a building contractor who is seemingly targeted by someone trying to destroy her business and reputation. Of course, appearances aren't always what they seem to be. Sometimes they're more complicated. Anyway, during the course of the investigation, a romance starts budding between her and one of the officers investigating the chain of events.

So here is what I didn't find so endearing. First, I'm not a big fan of formulaic romances. You know, the initial dislike and disdain, followed by a lot of unnecessary anxt, and eventually over the course of three days or two weeks or whatever the timeline of any given novel is, they discover that they are soulmates meant to spend eternity together. Secondly, among Christian authors, it always seems to be the heroine who is praying for the salvation of the hero so that she can justify getting together with him. Come on, when is someone going to write a book where the man is saved and the woman isn't? Or even better, where both of them either are or aren't?

Three stars is it for me, then. This book was OK, but it wasn't memorable.
