Editorial Reviews

What a milestone: 40 years! It seems like yesterday that "Our First Record" changed the course of events, arriving in a flash at this latest release "In Stride", with the same energy, the same desire to explore and keep in the game, consistently, and once again. «In Stride» envelopes the entire history of this band; it enhances the compositional talent of these four musicians, magnifies their voices as soloists and, above all, recalls in case you need reminding that strange and magical alchemy which transformed this quartet into Oregon.

5.0 out of 5 stars A latter year peak for Oregon October 11, 2010
Format:Audio CD
This album stands up well against the very best of their work. The individuals are in fine shape, there is a relaxed intensity to their familiar lyrical aesthetic, and Walker seems now a fully-fledged equal in the band, coming across at times like an amalgam of Peter Erskine, Trilok Gurtu, and the late, lamented Colin Walcott. Nuff said. Oregon fan? Buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lyrical Joy and Jazz October 19, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
'In stride' implies cruising speed and efficiency, but Oregon has almost always been a solid lyrical, innovative, free jazz, and quasi-classical group. Before listening to this particular album, I reheard their 1983 self-titled opus for some perspective. I am older, the musicians are older, but their freshness endures. Towner displays more mature and wisely confident jazz improvisations on guitar and especially on piano, McCandless still reaches for the stars with his beautiful oboe, and Glen Moore remains the deep anchor. What pleases me is that Mark Walker's percussion 'belongs", flowing with and supporting the Oregon sound. I very much enjoy his spirited drum work with both jazz and global feeling. This album, In Stride, sings. It rejoices. While it is definitely more mainstream jazz than the group's earliest semi-New Age adventures, Oregon remains the mood explorer and musical painter. Since recent albums have included one witty piece, "The Cat Piano" here is not unexpected. This excellent album, with every captivating track uplifting the spirit, is as time-defying as seem its creative musicians.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some of the finest Jazz you'll hear! March 26, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
They've been around for a long time, and they are still able to bring forth music that is new and fresh! Even after losing an integral member of the band, that would have spelled defeat for others nearly thirty years ago. They've gone on and continued to make that Oregon music that has endeared themselves to so many people through out the world. You can do no wrong by picking up this piece of beauty!
