Heres a song by song review of this pretty darn good album. But over all Morgan uses her normal voice and her growling voice much like Funerial For Yesterday. But she growls abit more on this. The mix of the album sounds great, no over production or computer effects. And it sounds like the band could be playing live in front of you. If you can imagine Oracle and Funerial together as one album then you get a good idea of how this sounds. Hard n Heavy of Oracle with the more mass appeal of Funerial. There is not one bad song on this album and can easliy be played track 1-12. For my Money this line up is very tight sounding nd I hope it stays together. Also some DAMN SEXY WOMEN.
1.Is a instrumential intro for the album. Duel guitars with a few bass lines played in.
2.So far the best known song from this album. Many live exsamples of this song is on youtube in which they play track 1 into it just like on this album. Mixture of Morgan's normal voice and her growling.
3.Driven paced, heavy hitting song. A headbanger which is kinda neat to play on your car sterio loud and drive fast. Kinda Breathe meets Look So Pretty. Check youtube for music video.
4.The same song Metallica covered on Garage INC. With Mercades
on some backing vocals.
5.Also has live exsamples on youtube. A more mild song with great drumming by Mercades. Morgon sings very good with her normal voice. Maybe her best exsample of it. Only thing missing is a guitar solo which I think would have fit in great.
6.Fast paced headbanger with the sisters doing some great duel growling on the verses. Morgan uses her normal voice great in this song on the chorses. Awesome guitar solo by Tara. Also a good car jaming song. Check youtube for this one too
7.No, not a cover of the Elvis song.

Heavier album than previous outputs. Lyrics are a bit cliched, but they aren't really known as accomplished lyricists. "Cut Throat" is definitely the highlight of the album.Progressing quite nicely over the years. Good Job, Kittie!

I have been with Kittie since the beginning when I picked up a copy of Spit in the late 90's. I have all their CDs and I have to admit that this new one "In The Black" is my new favorite. This is the hardest and most brutal Kittie album yet.

Morgan is back with the demonic howls and screams that we love her for. She still sings, but the screaming is powerful and in your face like a fist. This was very much missed on Funeral for Yesterday.

My favorite tunes on the album are Cut Throat, Forgive and Forget, and Die Die my Darling. At first when I saw the title I thought they had covered a Misfits song, but it is an original and it kicks butt.

Don't second guess yourself, buy this CD and I guarantee it will be in your car stereo for at least a week non stop.

Confused ? don't be. Spit was great, but when I listen to it now vs. In the Black.. I am awestruck at how far these ladies have come . Rarely do i listen to an album as much a i have these last few days, like every day. This one's not perfect, I think they should do less growling and more melodic -clean voice. I think Morgan can go toe to toe with Otep.I'm not going to write a thesis here..all in all buy this album, don't think twice...you won't regret it !

I've been a fan of Kittie for the longest time now. I like every album by Kittie, but my favorite album by Kittie is between Oracle, and Until The End. I think Kittie's music is their own unique style. Kittie is back with In The Black exactly where they should be. If you're a fan of Kittie you should get this album. Kittie shreds every time they put out an album. In The Black is one of my favorite albums of 2009.

I have to admit that after Funeral for Yesterday I thought Kittie was headed in the wrong direction. This album, although not exactly returning them to their prime, is an excellent album. Morgan's gutteral skills aren't quite where they were on Oracle, but their song writing and Morgan's clean voice make up for it. Not to mention, the recording quality of this album is as good as their best albums, and thankfully, they used a different crew than the one responsible for Funeral.

This is a band who never lets me down and 'In the Black' is no exception. Heavy vocals to soft serenading siren waves washing over the black sand of guitar crunch. It's an album I had been meaning to acquire sooner, and Christmas was finally a good excuse to pick it up. If you haven't heard them yet I would suggest start with their old stuff to fully appreciate the group and their constant improvement.

I am not a big fan of Kittie's earlier works. This is better, harder more mature effort than "Funeral for Yesterday". The songs aren't as catchy as the previous works but they do show that these ladies have become adults and are writing songs with more wisdom. Some may not like it but I do.
