More About the Author

I look for any opportunity to make stuff up. I think anything that can't so easily be explained is worth an extra look and often makes a great story. I love red wine, scotch, sunrises, Ancient Egypt, the beach--and a host of other stuff that would take too much real estate to talk about. The youngest of five children, I live with my husband and son on Long Island. And, in my next life, if I haven't moved on to somewhere else, I want to be an astronomer. I'm fascinated with the night skies almost as much as I'm fascinated with ancient Egypt.

I'm a member of member of Sisters in Crime and Mystery Writers of America, and you can read about me at http://terriponce.com/. You can also find me on Facebook and Twitter. Come visit. I'd love to hear from you!

'In this Life' is Terri Ponce's debut book. I for one certainly hope that this will not be her only novel.

I devoured this book, I could NOT put it down. I was recently doing some exams and I had put off reading this book until I had the exam done, and boy was I glad I did. I started this book on a Monday evening and finished it Tuesday morning. Thank goodness I didn't have to work, I think I would have 'accidentally' missed my stop just to finish this book.

The book falls into the category of Paranormal Romance, although I must warn you for those of you who are looking for Vampires, Werewolves or Witches you will not find them here. But do not let that turn you off this fabulous book.

The writing is evocative, sensual, engaging and thoroughly addictive. The story is full of twists and turns and leaves you guessing until the very last minute. Lottie is going through a regression to a previous life that she lived before and was caught between two men, one who she has known from childhood and one she has only just met a few days ago, but why does she feel torn between the two men? As the story starts to unfold and you realize that Lottie is getting a second chance to correct the mistakes that she made in a previous life. But who will she choose and will she find out in time who is threatening her?

To find out you will just have to read it for yourself! But be warned it will consume you until you get to the last page!

3.5 stars....This is a fast-paced, intense read. The plot is different to the other paranormal romance books that I have read because it isn't about your typical witches, weres, vamps or any other other worldly creatures. The major theme is about past lives and second chances and the author did a great job of telling the story because she had me wondering what the heck was going on. I felt Lottie's frustration and confusion as the story unfolded. I thought this book fell more in the mystery/suspense genre than it did romance(I was looking for more chemistry between the main characters). Overall this is a well written first novel. The concept is interesting and the characters are mature and well developed.

In more recent years I've taken to not giving 5 stars lightly. And it's true with In This Life by Terri Herman-Ponce, I don't give this 5 star lightly, the book deserves every one of those stars.

Told from Lottie Morgan's point, In This Life delves into the 'what if' you were given a second chance? Would you make the same mistakes, or would you change it all? Taking the reader on a fast past trek through the mystery of who's after Lottie in present day to the past of trying to figure out who Lottie was.

Herman-Ponce does a wonderful job of pulling the reader in with vivid descriptions past and present, drawing on our own frustrations right along with Lottie as she tries to convey her confusion and thoughts to David and finding herself getting nowhere. There were times I wanted to reach inside the book and shake David for being such a mule, but that's the kind of man I want to read, strong and confused, but trying oh so freaking hard to understand.

I'm already starting in on book 2, Covet, and I can't wait to see what secrets are revealed from David's life.

I'm not a huge reader, but this book captured my attention from the first page and I read it through in two days. I firmly believe in second chances and this story is about how David and Lottie struggle for their own second chance as lovers and as best friends. Lottie's determination to find happiness shows throughout her story, from the first chapter all the way to the end, and especially as she tries to understand the unexplainable events happening to her. Memories of another man, and another life, have her questioning her true love along with what she wants and what she needs. In This Life is a story within a story that takes place over two different periods of time, merged together seamlessly and with vivid descriptions that make you feel as if you're right there with the characters. The story is complex but written in a way that's easy to read and difficult to put down. Highly recommended.

Fabulous. An incredible debut novel. I did not want to put this book down. I couldn't wait to find out where the twists led, while at the same time, I didn't want it to end! The character development was amazing. The relationships were timeless and heartwarming. I felt like I KNEW these characters while wondering about past lives and seamlessly weaving from present to past, and back again during their beautiful journey of love and trust. This book is a must read!!

Have you ever had a moment of déjà vu? Most people just shake it off and come up with a thousand reasons why they felt that way; but has it ever made you wonder if there’s more to it? Scientific studies will all give conflicting information about why people experience this; anxiety, stress, mental illness… there are literally hundreds of explanations out there; which do you believe? Do you believe in past lives and reincarnation? That sometimes we just don’t get it right the first time around so we are given a second chance?

In This Life is the story of Dr. Lottie Morgan. She begins to experience intense episodes of déjà vu; except to her it isn’t as simple as feeling as though it’s happened before, she is actually recalling memories of a time that is not the present.

This is an excellent story. I loved the writing style and how seamlessly the story flows between Lottie’s recalled memories and the present. The characters are developed as the story progresses and as we pass between the past and the present we gain further understanding as to why the characters behave the way they do. The only negative I could pick out of the whole book was that there were times where I felt like Lottie didn’t have enough backbone. She tried to always handle every situation as a psychologist and not as a person (I’m not even sure that’s making sense)… she came across as a strong character, but there were times when her reactions didn’t reflect that. At first I didn’t like David very much. He was a little too controlling and, often times, demanding for my liking.
