Editorial Reviews

In Your Dreams is Nicks' first CD of new material since the release of her Grammy nominated Trouble in Shangri-La ten years ago. In Your Dreams was written and recorded at Nicks' Los Angeles home and is co-produced by Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard. Nicks and Stewart co-wrote seven of the album's thirteen songs. "I had written a song in Brisbane, Australia when I was on tour with Fleetwood Mac in 2009 called 'Moonlight - A Vampire's Dream' which was inspired by the New Moon film. When I finished writing that song, which came together really quickly, I knew the time was right to start recording. We had a core group of five people who were at the heart of the creation of In Your Dreams. Dave and myself, my longtime friend and musical director, Waddy Wachtel, and my girls, Sharon Celani and Lori Nicks. It was a perfect blend,"" commented Nicks. "This was one of the most extraordinary experiences I've had making a record. It is the first album that I have had this kind of collaboration since the making of Rumours. Dave created a situation where I could be totally creative and focused on writing songs and making music. I cannot remember ever having this much fun making a record. Writing the songs and recording them in my home studio was the key element in how this music turned out. It made the whole process seem very similar to how we used to work back in the day," she concluded.

The first single is "Secret Love" written by Nicks. "It was 1976 and Fleetwood Mac was opening for Peter Frampton at the time. It was written about a forbidden relationship - not Peter and I," laughed Nicks. "I always knew that one day I was going to record the song."

Nicks is currently gearing up to join forces with fellow rocker Rod Stewart for the 16 city Heart & Soul Tour, one of the most anticipated music events of the year.

5.0 out of 5 stars A New Masterpiece May 3, 2011
Format:Audio CD
Stevie Nicks' first album of new material in a decade, "In Your Dreams", is among the best things she's done. It's not like her other albums in any way and that's what makes it so great. It's a whole different sound for Stevie. Some artists go off and do "theme" albums in their career, be it a dance or covers album or in the 70's for instance everyone did a disco album at some point. And that's what this is for me, a total change of pace. It can't be compared to her previous albums because it's nothing like those albums. "In Your Dreams" is a breath of brand new air from Stevie. I've always felt that "Bella Donna" was Stevie's masterpiece, and it remains so, but "In Your Dreams" is also a masterpiece but painted in a very different style with very different colors. The stand out tracks are:
"In Your Dreams" ~ I have a feeling Stevie really likes this song and I bet this ends up in the set this summer. It's just one of those fast up tempo songs that she likes doing on stage.

"New Orleans" ~ Starts off slow, but then the chorus kicks in and it blooms.

"Moonlight (A Vampire's Dream)" ~ This is where the album kicks in for me. The beginning is taken from an old demo fans have had for years called "Lady From The Mountain" and she sings it almost exactly like the demo in the whisper like voice. She's turned a lot of older beloved demos into full-fledged songs lately and some of them didn't work, "Smile At You", "Goodbye Baby", but this one does. The new lyrics added to the original track really complete and fit the song.

"Annabel Lee" ~ This was demo'd for 2001's "Trouble In Shangri-La" but didn't make the cut. Music by Stevie, lyrics based on the poem By Edgar Allan Poe. Stevie and Poe seem to be a match made in heaven.

"Soldier's Angel" ~ First thought was this was another "Desert Angel" (a track from her 1991 best of album, "TimeSpace") but this is much better. Lindsey Buckingham adds a sparse, cold guitar and vocals that just nail this song. This isn't supposed to be a happy song, it's dark, depressing, cold, and empty. It's a perfect example of music and subject matter being perfectly matched. Not a song that everyone will like, but the song is almost like a slap in the face. Stevie makes her point beautifully.

"Ghosts Are Gone" ~ This would be a perfect song to open her show with. This is one of those songs that you cannot sit still and just listen to.

""Italian Summer" ~ The big lush strings at the start are a switch for Stevie. Another nice touch are the Beach Boy-esque background "aahh ahhh's" Again the music fits the lyric and you feel like you're out there with her looking out over the ocean at the islands. And that final note? Who knew Stevie had that in her!!??

"Cheaper Than Free" ~ A simple country song with simple yet thought provoking lyrics.

Stevie is back and better than ever on "In Your Dreams". Longtime fans will love this album, casual fans may need some time to digest it. It's a different sound for Stevie, but still unmistakably Stevie.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't judge May 27, 2011
By Ryan

Ok, first thing, I'm a Gen Y Stevie Nicks fan...so keep that in mind...

I bought the album and listened to it with the realization that this is all new material, so I probably would not like it right away, so I promised myself that I would listen to it twice all the way through back to back before I picked 'my' songs.

I'm really happy I gave it that second shot...
My first observation on the second time around, is that the songs are in two parts each. The first is a sort of extended intro where Stevie tells the story she's writing about. Then the actual, what you might call 'song', begins.

This is where this albums true colors SHINE.

I bought this album this morning and have been listening to it all day, and it just keeps getting better. I'm finding new levels to each song every time I hear it.

This is her best solo work since "The Wild Heart"

A must to be sure, but keep in mind that it's all new material, stuff we've never heard before...And you MUST listen to it two times in a row, back to back, if you want to 'get it'.

5.0 out of 5 stars She does it again! May 3, 2011
Format:Audio CD
It's been 10 years since Stevie Nicks last released an album, and it was well worth the wait! Her vocals are powerful and ageless, her intricate storytelling is enchanting, and the poetry is abundant and beautiful. "Secret Love" was written in 1976 and is about one of her rock star romances, but she coyly maintains she can't remember which one. The ballad "Italian Summer" is an over the top seduction, which climaxes in typical Nicks fashion: "Love was everywhere/You just had to fall." "Moonlight (A Vampire's Dream)" was inspired by the Twilight series and sets a mysterious and gothic mood to perfection. "Annabel Lee" is a masterpiece tribute to Edgar Allen Poe; it's a 6 minute thesis on love and death that echoes the Fleetwood Mac classic "Dreams." On "New Orleans" she recalls her eternal desire to "wear feathers and lace", while "Soldier's Angel" finds her intoning ominously about war. Overall the strength and sincerity of Nicks' songs make this just another reason to love and respect her, and I'd highly recommend this new collection of songs to anyone!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars 70's throwback
I love Stevie Nicks voice no matter what she sings. This cd was good but lacked the tortured soul type songs that defined her through the 70's.

Stevie's Bomb's
I like most of what you hate a lot, but there are songs that I hate as well. For the record, Rock A Little and TOSOTM are my favorite albums by her, but I understand that they're certainly not everyone's cup of tea, per se.
Yes indeed, When I See You Again is just awful for the reasons you state.... Read more
