"I See The Doorway Of A Thousand Churches", October 9, 2008
This review is from: In Your Eyes (MP3 Download)
I find "In Your Eyes" a very classy, romantic closer to Peter Gabriel's 1986 album "So". The character in the song is a very vulnerable and weary man, sort of like the man in Peter's song "Don't Give Up". The presence of his loved one "keeps him awake and alive", and their eyes evoke "the doorway of a thousand churches/the resolution of all my fruitless searches" (which I think is a pretty intense line, reminiscent in a way of the Genesis song "The Chamber of 32 Doors").
I don't know how to explain it, but there is a real feeling, many feelings of togetherness in this song, from the guitar that sparkles as Peter sings "all my instincts they return/and the grand facade so soon will burn", to the world music inspired calling/singing at the end. It's magic, and well worth your download. Mind you, the whole album is good and really worth checking out.
