Book Description

November 19, 1999
Widely anticipated for years, Adobe InDesign is finally here -- and this hot new page layout and design program will give QuarkXPress TM its toughest competition ever! If you're planning to give InDesign a whirl, InDesign In Depth is the authoritative, comprehensive guide you need. Lead author Frank Romano is a world-renowned graphic arts expert who wrote the first QuarkXPress book, and has been intimately involved with InDesign since the earliest test versions. Romano explains the sleek, state-of-the-art InDesign program architecture, which relies more heavily on plug-ins than any previous layout package, and integrates spectacularly well with other Adobe tools, such as Photoshop and Acrobat. Then, learn all the InDesign skills you need for sophisticated page layout: managing frames, objects, type, text, and much more. Romano offers never-before-published tips and tricks for making the most of graphics in InDesign; creating perfect output whether you're outputting to film, PDF, or HTML; importing QuarkXPress and PageMaker documents; scripting, text tagging, and more.

Editorial Reviews

From the Inside Flap

Foreword

InDesign opens a new chapter in Adobe's publishing strategy. We have spent over five years crafting an architecture and implementing features that will take us and the design community into the next century.

Really great tools allow the designer to create anything that the imagination can conceive, and make the hopelessly complex task seem simple.

We believe that InDesign is a tool that does both.

John Warnock Chairman of the Board & Chief Executive Officer Adobe Systems, Inc.

With the new addition of InDesign to the field of Graphic Communications, a guide really needed to be written for the smooth transition. This book is excellent and is a must for any InDesign user, whether advanced or novice. It directly relates to the field of printing and is a great addition to any collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good advice!, March 30, 2000

Maxim (Moscow, Russia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: InDesign InDetail (Paperback)
At over thirty dollars, I expected more from this book. Like a better index. Some organization. And honesty about what the problem can and can't do. This book is little more than a sales demo of what the product can do. However, even then they haven't done a very good job.

I suppose this book would be OK if I were taking a class and had a teacher there. But on its own there's not enough explanation of why you want to do things.

The visual quickstart book is half the price, but contains much better instructions, is laid out better, and has a good index.
