4.0 out of 5 stars Not as big of a disappointment as folks let on...
I read the reviews. I was a bit skeptical. I was looking for a machine that I could use for both work and play, and I even purchased this item as a refurb so you can imagine that I was a bit scared about what I'd end up with.

1.0 out of 5 stars A terrible product, January 13, 2005

Wow, should have read the Amazon reviews before buying. I signed up to write a review with Amazon just because this product has caused me so much frustration. I have had a compact Optoma project that has been wonderful for the past four years. I bought this because it was even smaller. What a contrast! The projector failed the first day. Received a message saying "Lamp Did Not Strike" ?? After following directions and checking the lamp door and reseating the lamp, same message. This is my third time trying to get through to customer service. The first two times I was on hold for an hour before having to leave. So far it's been 45 minutes...

(I'm never buying Infocus again. Back to Optoma...)

You really want to love this projector. I bought three! Clients ooh and aah over the sleek size and of course it is easy to carry. Thats where the fun ends. Two of the three have broken down in moderate use within 6 months. The first has been under repair for 10 weeks and there is always something "not right" even when they do work. Customer Service from Infocus has been horrible and I am done with them as a company to do business with.

3.0 out of 5 stars Delightful unless you care about colour, April 22, 2005
This review is from: InFocus LP120 Mobile DLP Video Projector (Office Product)
A gem of a machine spoilt by lousy colour rendition even by the low standards of projectors generally. The closest it can get to yellow is a mucky olive green.

Customer service isn't up to much either (on the basis of InFocus's handling of one machine that was DOA and the colour issue above).

I read the reviews. I was a bit skeptical. I was looking for a machine that I could use for both work and play, and I even purchased this item as a refurb so you can imagine that I was a bit scared about what I'd end up with.

By the way, if you go to professional AV sites and see what they say about this product, you get a more balanced review that looks at the capabilities of the product. People who work in video know that the defaults on av equipment aren't always set to match every end-users preference.

Out of the box, yes - the yellows look a little green. If you sit down and adjust the color settings with a reference image, its like tuning an instrument. Find the color temp and tint that you want, save the preset and you are done! I was able to get a reasonable color profile to match my vaio laptop in about 10 minutes... red gain 71, green can stay around 50, blue gain 65 or so.

The valid complaint, if you want to call it that, is the image is not the brightest out there. BUT this thing is small. Incredibly small. The lens? I would bet it isn't much larger than a quarter. The ability to be able to pack this with my laptop in a briefcase for carry-on is fantastic.

The audio is poor a mono 1 watt speaker. The lack of inputs was scary, but this comes with a number of adapters and attachments to make up for it. The fans are quiet - I was expecting something much louder.

Overall I found this product delivers what it promises. I am only giving it 4 stars right now because I just got it... I'll step it up to 5 if it continues to perform well.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst projector our company has ever bought, October 4, 2006
This review is from: InFocus LP120 Mobile DLP Video Projector (Office Product)
They're small... They're beautiful... but they're totally unreliable. Of the 30 LP120 we own, only 3 of them have not yet required service( i said not yet...). I have 7 broken ones now. LAMP DID NOT STRIKE... LAMP SHUT OFF..... are usually the welcome message with the LP120.....BUYERS BEWARE.. Turn around time for a repair 2 months....

A great projector for travel. Infocus tech support is terrible for service so make sure you have a authorized support dealer near you.

4.0 out of 5 stars One glitch at start-up, great ever since, December 20, 2011
By
This review is from: InFocus LP120 Mobile DLP Video Projector (Office Product)
I, too, got the "projector won't strike" error the first day I used it, which was a bummer...and the only reason this isn't a five star review. This was about seven years ago, and InFocus customer care took care of getting me an RMA and had it back to me in a few weeks (which is too long.)

After that, the thing has been flawless. I've used it for seven years, not especially frequently, but it gets lugged everywhere. I didn't expect much brightness from such a small device, but it almost always looks better than the full-sized units in conference rooms -- I've often brought it as a back-up to use instead of customers' sub-par projectors.

I've used it in very large rooms (at a 60 person driver's meeting) and it works great, even with ambient light. It's sharp, and to my eye, the colors are true. (I mostly use it for PowerPoints, not videos, however.)

Even so many years later, people comment on it -- they've never seen anything so small.

It does run hot -- the person sitting next to the vent will know it! But I love it and would certainly buy it again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Projector never turns off, August 15, 2008

Don't buy this if you value a bit of peace and quiet. This isn't a case of the projector being broken, this is actually how it was designed! When you power it off, the lamp turns off and the fan slows down but it DOES NOT STOP! The only way to get the fan completely off is to unplug the unit.

I understand that the bulb requires a cool-off period, so the fan should stay on for a while, but this fan NEVER turns off.

5.0 out of 5 stars Size matters..., January 29, 2007
This review is from: InFocus LP120 Mobile DLP Video Projector (Office Product)
We have 15+ LP120s at our company for over 2 years now and they have performed well.

Obviously, you buy this projector for the size. If you can carry around a bigger projector, you can no doubt do better on price, brightness, and color. But this thing is small enough to fit in your computer bag, is easy to set up even for non-technically inclined business people, and does a great job for business presentations to small to medium sized groups (up to 40-50 people). It comes with everything you would need in terms of accessories.

We've run some occaasional video over it with no problems. If video is your primary use, you could do better with another projector.

So, you buy this because you want a light, very easy to travel projector with the essential features for a small to medium group business presentation. For this purpose, this projector is the best on the market, even though it's been out for a few years. It helps that the price has come down significantly over the past year.

If you have other needs (video, large groups), look elsewhere.
