5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value for a Multimedia Projector, October 9, 2005

This review is from: InFocus ScreenPlay 5700 DLP front projector (Electronics)
Excellent Picture. Deep darks, bright and excellent colors. Simple setup. Open box, plug and play. Manual focus and zoom is simple to use. You don't need a lot of room to have a 90" screen in your house.

Only drawback is the fan noise. But can be get used to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Pleased With This Unit, July 29, 2009
By
J. Alex G (Indiana, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: InFocus ScreenPlay 5700 DLP front projector (Electronics)
I use a Screenplay 5700 in my own home theater.

Pros:

1. Colors are vivid and lamp is bright. You can buy a projector screen if you want, but using a flat wall for the screen is perfectly fine. (Even a wall that isn't white or gray- my wall is yellow) You can adjust colors easily to compensate for whatever surface you have.

2. The room doesn't have to be entirely dark- you will still be able to see the picture fine when your room is partially lit.

3. The other reviewer said that the fan is loud- I beg to differ. On my unit the fan is so quiet that the "issue" never even entered into my mind, and I sit right below the unit.

4. I've noticed no DLP rainbow effect, and my wife is very sensitive to those types of things. She is fine with it as well.

5. Works great with non-upscaling DVD players. In fact, I recommend you turn any upscalers off and run bare 480i for DVDs- let the projector handle the upscaling. I haven't tried the unit with Blu-Ray.

CONS:

1. To use an HDMI cable with the unit, you need an M1-DA VESA to HDMI converter plug. Most of these you see online are a staggering $50, but if you look hard enough you can locate one for $10.

2. I've noticed some weird lines on the screen in some movies (Like the "Revenge of the Sith" opening sequence) when using the factory settings, but you can entirely eliminate them by playing with these settings. So this becomes a non-issue.

3. This projector needs a little bit more throw distance than I'd like. (I can get a 91" screen with approx 13 ft of throw, from lens to wall)

Overall: Terrific projector, great price. Highly recommend as a first projector.

1.0 out of 5 stars REFURBISHED 5700 INFOCUS= REALLY USED, July 24, 2007
This review is from: InFocus ScreenPlay 5700 DLP front projector (Electronics)
I PURCHASED A REFURBISHED INFOCUS 5700 PROJECTOR. NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS. THE LAMP HAD NEARLY 2000 HOURS ON IT. THE CONROL FOR DOWN WOULD NOT WORK. EVIDENTLY INFOCUS IS NOT REMANUFACTURING THESE UNITS AS THEY STATE. INFOCUS OFFERS A TRADE IN DEAL. THEY WILL GIVE YOU UP TO $150. FOR YOUR OLD UNIT (READ BETWEEN THE LINES.) TRY TO GET INFOCUS TO HONOR A WARRANTY, EVEN MORE TROUBLE. THEY DANCE AROUND YOU UNTIL YOU ARE FED UP. THEIR SERVICE TECHS ARE NOT CUSTOMER FRIENDLY. GOOD LUCK!
