Reviewers say it's "amazingly quiet," "insanely quiet," "not as quiet as I thought it would be." The maker says it's not as quiet as their $300 model.

I made a video so you can listen for yourself. (Use headphones or quality speakers.)

PROs:

* Quiet
* Plenty of grinding power
- 4-year warranty

CONs:

- none

The amazon price jumps around. Low tide is around $165. There's an "Online Price Alert" that will email you whenever this or any amazon product dips below your target price. Google it. It's nicely done. Or try camelcamelcamel.

- - - "Pro Compact" vs "Compact" Models - - -

Amazon lists two models with no clear differences explained.

The differences are slight. Apparently it's to offer trade channels some protection from online competition. (Hmmm... Amazon offers both models. How's that working out?)

InSinkErator email Oct 23, 2012:

"The Evolution Compact is available through home improvement centers and plumbing stores while the Evolution Pro Compact is through plumbers, plumbing stores and wholesalers only. The Evolution Compact comes with 4 year warranty while the Evolution Pro Compact comes automatically now with 5 year warranty. The warranty for the Evolution Compact can also be extended but it has to be installed by a Procircle plumber from InSinkErator. Lastly, the Evolution Compact comes with a Quiet Collar Sink Baffle while the Evolution Pro Compact comes with Anti-Microbial Quiet Collar Sink Baffle"

Our insinkerator 444 died, and after doing some measurements on the product charts, the pro compact seemed like it would fit in its place. It took me less than 30 minutes to put this garbage disposer in its place. The insinkerators share the same connectors, so didn't need to change anything except for the disposer itself. No leaks, works perfectly and very quiet. I am really happy about this purchase.

Received the first one I ordered. The writing on the box read Insinkerator Evolution Compact, indicating to me it was the $75 cheaper version. I returned it without opening it.

Received the second one I ordered. Same thing. Before opening the box called Amazon, explained the problem. They said they would investigate and call me back...that never happened.

Looked closer at the box and found a little sticker over the UPC bar code that said Insinkerator Evolution Pro with its own bar code. So I opened the box. No where on the product or the manual was the word Pro used. I called the Insinkerator 800 number to see if they could connect the product serial number to the Pro version. They confirmed the product was not a Pro model.

Sending this one back as well and will call Amazon and suggest they read this review. Maybe it will get their attention.

This garbage disposer was recommended by my contractor, and was delivered right on schedule for convenient installation. It's been in use since August 2010. It's the smallest such machine we've owned (leaving more room under the sink), but the most quiet and apparently the most powerful.

Why did I choose to put up with a garbage disposal that sounded like a lumber jack sawing through an Oregon Forest?
Why did I think that it was normal to see the dish rack vibrate across the counter, like a game of electronic football every time I flipped the switch? (For those of you who can remember)
Vibbibbbbb.....Vibbibbbbb...Vibbibbbbb.... Touchdown!!! (as the dish rack falls into the sink).

I know you are reading this review in hopes to affirm that you are about to make:
1: A sound purchase.
2: Get" bang" for ya buck!
3: And well....not buy another garbage disposal like the one you have now!

Let me get into your head for a minute.......And, let me respond to your skepticism.

I know you are thinking like I did.... (Whinnying) "Dang , I don't want to spend more than $100 or $125 for a garbage disposer. = Spend another $75 or $50 more than what you figured. (let's be real.... things cost more now a days).
Or
How do I know if these reviews were written by real people? = Get outta here!
Or
Is it really quiet? = Yep! Quiet like "Did I turn it on? Quiet". It hummmms!

P.S.
This was my first Garbage Disposer installation.
The instructions were easy to follow. Easy like a paperback copy of, "Garbage Disposer installation for Dummies" easy.
**** The only thing you need to buy in addition to the Garbage Disposer, is "PLUMBERS PUTTY" from your local hardware store or (yikes) Wal-mart.

I've had this unit for about 3 months, and have been very pleased with it. It is powerful enough for everything I've thrown at it, seems well made and sturdy, and it is so quite you might think it's not running. It fit perfectly to the hanger hardware from my old Badger unit making the installation a lot faster and easier. Great appliance, would buy again.

Like everyone says, this disposal is so quiet you will have to turn the water off to make sure it is still working. Have only had it for a month but it is great. You really have to stuff food into the opening as the plastic is fairly stiff but once the food goes in, it's like 100 samurais chopping at sushi, only quieter.

It looks pretty cool and was smaller than my previous disposal, which was about the same dB as a wood chipper. I really can't see anyone needing more than a 3/4hp disposal, unless you are cramming a water buffalo into your sink, you really shouldn't need anything larger. Very happy with the ease of installation, my handyman wanted charged me $40. Sure this disposal is a tad pricey but if you pay for a large pile of crap, you deserve a large pile of crap.
