Just put a small bowl under the old filter to catch several ounces of water and twist the old filter counterclockwise a quarter turn. The water from the feed line automatically shuts off so you don't have to turn the water off at the valve. Twist on the new filter and turn on the hot water dispenser for about a minute or so to bleed out the air. It couldn't be more simple!! It's just like they say in the instructions. I finally found something that works like the manufacturer says it should.

I just came home to a lake in the kitchen! Thank goodness I was only gone an hour. The bottom of the replacable filter cracked open and spraying water at nearly a garden hose rate. No doubt about correct installation. This is a manufacturing defect. The filter should fail to filter when it goes bad and not fail and flood your home.

There is no excuse for a part made of essentially pvc not to last as long as pvc pipe and at least be engineered to the same specs. The crack is in a 3"circle on the very bottom and extends over 1/2 the way around. There is an obvious weak spot around the rest. Clearly this is a design flaw that should be immediately addressed and distribution stopped until it is. There is no excuse for a $200 kitchen convenience resulting in thousands of dollars in damage.

Now I have read about two others in 3 minutes and I wasn't even looking for stories. The replacement price is ridiculous at $25 dollars each... really! I'm supposed to replace this every 3 months? Do not buy this product or any other item that has such catastrophic low probability/ high consequence profile.

Similarly to all the other reviews, we came home to find water gushing out of a crack in the filter. Kitchen flooded and water pouring into the basement. Thousands of $$ in damage to the kitchen and adjoining rooms. Like the others, we had no idea that the filter needed to be changed. We bought the house 1 year ago and hadn't realized we should check that filter. While I take responsibility for not changing it, failure of the filter should not result in a flooded house. I am removing the filter and having the water line go directly to the dispenser. I would rather pay the extra money and have a house filter added later. Make sure you change these filters, you do not want to deal with the consequences if you don't!!

This is the first review I have ever given for anything, but felt compelled to chime in regarding the F-201R filter design flaws. We experienced the same problems that were observed by others - loud pop, and very expensive flooding before we were able to shut off the water. This is not acceptable! Although we too did not replace the filter within the recommended period, we would not have bought the unit if we knew that it would explode if we didn't pay the exorbitant annual costs for replacements.
Bottom line: DO NOT BUY THIS FILTER!!

Came home to flooded house, like many others I have learned. The filter has a failure point at the bottom seam around the filter bottom. Insinkerator simply pawned me off to 3M who they say is the manufacturer. While I could not say for certain that we replaced the filter exactly at the 3 month interval recommended, I know we did replace within a reasonable period. I am one of many I have now learned who have had thousands of dollars of damage caused by this filter leaking. So be ware of the potential risk which could be very costly. 3M tried to blame it on how old the filter was from its manufacturing date rather than how long I actually had it installed. I wish I would have known about this risk up front as I would have never bought this system! Insinkerator needs to be much more transparent about these known problems and also do the right thing to help customers who have to suffer from this poorly manufactured product filter. The filter was even analyzed at an independent lab who determined it failed prematurely. You would think Insinkerator would be heavily involved in getting 3M to correct this problem as its their brand that is on the product

InSinkErator F-201R Filtration Replacement Cartridges, 2-Pack We woke up this morning to discover that our kitchen was flooded with water from a crack in a F201R filter. The water seeped through the floor and rained into our basement, covering a wide area. We had to call in professional contractors who removed the almost-new flooring from our kitchen and drilled holes around the bottom of each cabinet to allow tubes to be inserted from multiple industrial strength dehumidifying units. It's a real mess, and it will be several weeks until the kitchen is fully restored. Fortunately it is covered by USAA insurance. The contractor who built our kitchen never told us that we needed to replace the filter, in fact I didn't know that it was there until today. Instant hot water is a nice feature, but we have made little use of it. Now I am wary about using it at all.

I was upstairs when I heard water running and no one else was home. I went to the kitchen to see water pouring out of the cabinet. I quickly figured out what it was and turned the water off but by that time half the kitchen was flooded. The filter was cracked on the bottom like others have said. I'm just glad I was home and had the water off within 30 seconds. Do NOT buy these filters. I will inform my insurance company so if they have paid out claims because of these they can go after In Sink Erator with a pattern of failure in a poorly made product.

This filter fits in the InSinkerator water dispenser and gives great-tasting room temperature/hot water every time. However, I wish there was some sort of indicator on the filter to let you know when to change it.
