I own a 15 foot rowing canoe which ways 75 pounds. This carrier sure makes getting down to the water a whole lot easier on my middle aged body.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, June 30, 2009

This is just what we needed to transport our canoe down the road to water, without having to load it onto the car. Now we walk it down the street like a dog to the bay. It rolls beautifully, and seems sturdy. An added advantage is that we fold the carrier up and take it in the canoe, so that when the wind comes up,or the tide changes, we don't necessarily have to land at the same spot where we put in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Save your energy for paddling., March 23, 2009
This review is from: InStep Boat and Canoe Carrier (Misc.)
I've had this carrier for 4 seasons and have used it many times to cart my 15 foot canoe about 100 yards to the water. In the description it indicates that it has quick release wheels. On mine this is not the case: you have to spin the knobs nut off which takes a more then "seconds" (esp. if you drop the knob in the water.) However, the spring-loaded kick stand is an excellent feature and sets this carrier apart. If a carrier doesn't have this I'm not sure how easy it'd be to drag the boat onto the carrier as it'd keep sliding away. Overall it's well made. However, its durability comes at a weight cost: at 25 lbs I'd probably think twice about taking it along on a tour for portaging.

We have both a double kayak and a single kayak. It was an effort to hump both kayaks to many of the out-of-the-way spots that are accessible to kayaks only. I purchased the carrier for my husband's birthday, and at first he was affronted that I thought he couldn't handle the boats himself, being a manly outdoorsy kind of guy. However, when we assembled the carrier and he tried it out, he fell in love with it! The carrier is easily maneuverable and the full-sized kick stand allows stable loading, unloading and parking.
We are anxious to put it to the full range of use next spring, but it has already opened up many more opportunities to access more remote locations that we otherwise would have avoided due to the length and difficulty of getting to the launch site and/or portage.
I finally found a gift my husband is excited about. The shipping was prompt, the packaging was secure, and the assembly was easy.

It's about a half mile to take my kayak from my garage to the river, 20% over an unimproved road. With this carrier and its bicycle wheels, the walk with the kayak is an easy trip.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Canoe Carrier, December 8, 2011

I purchased this carrier with a friend. It really is easy to use and is very well made and at a great price. We place all our gear in the canoe along with a large cooler of beverages and transport all across railroad tracks to the river about seventy-five yards away. As we get older, we can use all the help we can get. I will be canoeing for a long time to come thanks to this carrier.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for my 16" canoe, May 1, 2010

Just reverse the cradles, to get a wider stable stand. Use a bigger pump to inflate the tires, the one they provide is useless. I used the one I use for my bike, a "T-pump". And when you fold the cart, do NOT tighten the axles screws. This cart is perfect for small and large canoes. Better than any other, and cheap enough.
