I bought this car last Christmas for my three-year-old son. I really don't recommend it. Assembly was a little difficult as some of the pieces are held together by small screws and bolts. A couple of these screws snapped when I was tightening them. I had to compromise when attaching the rear wheels to the pedal assembly. If I tightened the wheels too much, it was impossible to move the pedals. Even now, it is still difficult for my son to pedal. I would look for this item in a bicycle shop, and take a test drive before buying it online.

I purchased this for my three year old son for Christmas 08'. I read the reviews and allowed for the "three" hours claimed to be needed to put it together in another review. It took fourty five minutes to assemble. All of the hardware was included and the instructions were average at best. Pictures and some upside down holding, along with some common sense and fourty five minutes later we have a great little pedal car.
Yes I agree, the pedal system is not set up like a bike. It is not tall enough for the rotation of the pedals. It is more of a weight shifting pushing pedal than a circular rotation. It takes some effort, and the turn radius is lacking. But this is an old fashion pedal car, remember that when considering petite youngsters. My three year old figured it out in less than thirty minutes, but he is a big boy! So if you are thinking about a memorable gift for you and yours under the tree or any other time, check this one out. Infact Lars just came up to me and looked at the screen and said "Cool Dad, look it's Fire." He named his car Fire.

This pedal car is adorable and made to last a long time. When putting this together we noticed the two front wheels wouldn't turn. We had to bend the frame that holds the petals and front wheels quite a bit to get it to work properly. Once it was all put together, it works well. I wish they would have made all gray and chrome parts either gray or chrome. It looks funny that some parts are chrome and others are gray.We are also making cushions for the bottom and back of the seat so its more comfortable.Overall, I think its adorable and my nephew is going to love it!

It's nice to have something that isn't made of plastic. For the most part relatively easy to assemble. It took a few hours for me to do by myself, but I stopped a few times to take care of other things. Once assembled, it looks good and rides well.

This was a fun car for my grandaughter, it was a little tricky to put together, as the pictures in the directions were foggy and the pieces did not match the color or describe exactly wif they were attached to another piece, or seperate. She is having a great time riding it, and I'm sure her 6 month old brother will really like it when he gets his turn.

Bought this for our 3 YO grandson's birthday. PaPa is a former Goodyear Svc. Mgr. and it took him less than 30 minutes to put together - easy, directions more than adequate. PaPa is beaming because it's just divine, so of course, he added a coat of car wax to improve the shine!
BTW - it took less than a week to get to OH, thank you, Amazon.

We bought this pedal car for our grandson's 2nd birthday. We were very satisfied with the price and the quality. It did take my husband a little while to put it together. If you are not mechanical it might be a challenge to assemble this car. I think this is a toy that can be passed on to the next generation if it is cared for.

Looks great, works well,
This review is from: InStep Street Rod Pedal Car (Toy)
We actually bought this for a one-year-old, fully understanding that his feet wouldn't reach the pedals for a year or two. Mostly, we thought he'd sit in it, maybe 'walk' it around. It turned out to be most popular with my son's 4-year-old female cousin, who monopolizes it whenever she comes over to play.
Frankly, I think the fire engine would've been more popular with my kids, but in the discussion between my hisband and I, we 'agreed' upon the hot rod. It takes a bit more leg power to operate than you might think. It was very easy to assemble for someone who is used to assembling stuff -- and if you have kids, you've probably assembled at least 12 things in the last year. It's a heavy-duty, good-looking car that will only get better with time.

Poorly Designed,

We purchased this car for our 4 year old grandson for Christmas. The car is so poorly designed that there are large bolts through the seat - the child can't miss sitting on them. When we tried to assemble the pump pedal to the wheels, the wheel repeatedly came off and could not be tightened enough for it to remain attached. Tighten the wheel enough to keep it attached and it would not turn. I would not recommend this product to anyone.
