Customer Reviews

I found it heated up quickly and was very easy to use.

I don't know if there's a certain technique that needs to be used, but her waves were all over the place and just didn't give good results.
Doc Stew
Cons: The bristles will also totally tangle your hair if you're used to sliding out a typical curling iron barrel.

I was worried about buying this new iron since there were no reviews yet, but I'm glad I did. This iron was bought to replace my worn-out rotating hot iron, also from InStyler, so I do trust the brand name. I think the hot brush works better than my attempts to use the blow dryer and round brush myself, so if you're flying solo with that impossible task I'd definitely recommend. The flat iron itself is the best I've personally ever used. Because this iron has those bristles you can REALLY get to the root of your hair, which was a problem for me before since I have naturally curly and frizzy hair. No more wavy roots yay! Also the actual lines of bristles themselves move a little bit on the barrel so it doesn't get tangled up. I really like that you can grab and guide the tool without burning yourself.

I can't say much on how well it curls hair, since I did not buy it for that purpose, but the one time I got curious and tried it didn't go so well. Even with using the method to curl like the instructions say, my (then straight) hair got horribly tangled in the bristles. 10 minutes, one yell, one minor burn, and a clump of mangled hair later, it finally let me go.

Overall, as a hot brush AND a straighter I say it's 5 star worthy! Curling you'd have to ask a more qualified person. Definitely a product I'll be taking care of for a while!

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
PRO - This styler was pretty good when straightening my hair... I have really thick hair, so it took a few passes on each strand to achieve the desired affect (plus it's always a little more work for me when the straightener is anything less than 2 inches wide - this one is 1 inch). With my thicker hair, I had to use a higher temperature setting, and I had a little bit of static after. But overall, pleased with the straightening.

PRO - This styler was also easy to use and achieve more volume at my roots. Again, had to make several passes, but I was excited that I didn't have to switch over to a different salon instrument to do so.

CON - I was not able to achieve good curls - the problem is that with other curling irons, you have heat around the entire instrument because the head is all metal - on this product, the heating plates are between the comb bristles on the outside. And it feels like my hair just isn't getting enough heat from the plates as I pass the hair through to get a nice curl. BUT, I was able to curl my ends under after a few passes... that just doesn't justify calling this a "curling iron" though.

I do love that this product is safer than most straighteners and curling irons - burning yourself is nearly impossible unless you stick your hand directly inside the wand on the heated plates, but there is a locking feature that prevents this as well when using it as a curling brush.

** Product also came with a carrying case - nice touch, but NOTE: the case is not a heat-proof one - was kinda hoping it was, but sadly no.

I was prepared to be underwhelmed by the InStyler, but came away wowed. This little tool is going to replace three others in my carryon bag. No more packing a flat iron, a round brush, and curling iron; this tool handles it all. Admittedly, my Remington Pearl is a more powerful straightening iron, but the InStyler works well, and the round brush feature is awesome. You can literally brush smooth body into your hair. Of course, you're not going to get tight, bouncy curls with this. But you can get great beach-y waves. To get those big waves, section and roll around the brush. Hold for a few seconds and unwind. My only complaint is...to get a true curl, I have to section a lot, and I have to be careful not to roll too tightly. Once, my hair got tangled, and I nearly burned myself trying to get my tresses loose again. But overall, I'm so pleased with the hot brush. My hair is so thick and coarse, and this really smooths it out. And this is a must for carry-on only traveling. It even comes with it's own traveling bag, which is a nice extra touch.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I had high hopes for this product as a quick and easy way to tame my naturally curly hair -- 3b curly spirally type. It's coarse, dry and thick with lots of curls and spirals. To be fair, I never use curling irons and never use brushes which tangle in my hair, but I thought since this has a heated brush plus flat iron it could work. FYI, I started with clean, air-dried hair with all the curl.

What I liked:

*Actually the only thing was that I could open the flat iron center, clamp it down on a section, then roll my hair slightly around the brush moving downward to create LONG spirals -- like banana curls. Except I couldn't figure out what to do with them. As they fell out, my hair looked mostly straight but slightly frizzy toward the lower half. :/
*No problems with the brush tangling in my hair. I was careful to not wrap it too much or too tightly.

What didn't work for me:

*It took 3-5 minutes to warm up the styler. Probably comparable to a curling iron, but alot longer than my straightener.
*The flat iron won't fit flush to my head, so there was an inch+ of wave left near the scalp. That doesn't look right when the rest of the hair is straighter.
*I did many passes with the flat iron -- it didn't seem hot enough even on high-- and I didn't have frizz-free straight hair that I expect.
*There's no place to grab or hold the iron for a tighter grip to straighten. I realize it has hot areas, but the flat iron didn't feel "tight" to my hair.
*There's only a low/high setting option, and the plug doesn't come with a safety plug, the one that says "test" and "reset.
