This magical lip gloss compells you,

This review is from: InVisible (v. 1) (Paperback)
I just finished reading Invisible and I was struck by how smart it all is. Obviously Crane has experience in the field, and of Japan, but its never forced. The language is streamlined to the barest minimum which leaves much of our questions unanswered and our imaginations working over the details. Little nuggets of truth help the simple story along and make it surprisingly personal, but from a place I never saw coming. Gender identity crisis is what drives the conflict inside Kay. What's more important are small moments that anyone would have. They punctuate who Kay is whether girl, boy or both.

I enjoyed this book as a little bit of escapism. While the premise is obviously impossible, I wasn't put off by the impossibility or the characters' reactions to the transformation. However, I'm impatiently awaiting v.2. Please release!

Right idea, bad presentation,

Girl that suddenly wakes up as a boy? Certainly sounds interesting. But this wasn't. The book certainly had the right idea where it was going, but the way it was presented was just not believable at all. Seriously, no one gets over waking up a different gender in under an hour and decides to fly to a different country as if nothing happened. The characters also felt flat for the most part, especially Adrian who always seem to have an ulterior motive that is never properly addressed. Except that he's possibly gay and prefers boy!Kay which would have been more interesting to me instead of Kay going back and forth. By the time I got to to the end, and the message of the story, I stopped caring. The art is familiar if you've read books from Yaoi Press.

I just finished reading volume one, and can't wait for the second one to come out. I highly recommend it.
