Book Description

October 19, 2005

Introducing the InVision Health Guides, the dramatic new way to look at our health.

This groundbreaking book brings heart health insights to readers more vividly than most medical professionals have seen. While other heart books are text–heavy with standard images of the heart, this book offers a fabulous, full–color journey through the cardiovascular system using what author Alexander Tsiaras calls "the science of visualization" a groundbreaking visual technology that sees into body tissue in many dimensions and at multiple points in time. The result: stunning visuals that are not merely reflections of the surface of an object (a blood cell, artery, or a heart valve), but are dimensional renderings.

In this visually–driven health book, we see the heart in all its miraculous function, view what can go wrong, and learn options for achieving cardiovascular health. It reveals:

o The development of the cardiovascular system from conception to birth

o The marvel of the adult cardiovascular system and how it works

o How hypertension and other risk factors insidiously damage this beautiful, powerful system

o Surgical, medical, and lifestyle strategies for cardiovascular health

By showing the astonishing beauty of the heart in action, this inspiring book makes the urgency of maintaining heart health real and relevant as never before.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

By using cutting-edge visual technology to illustrate the harmful effects of smoking, stress, lack of exercise, a poor diet and other well-established risk factors associated with heart disease, Tsiaras, an artist and the CEO of Anatomical Travelogue, a company that produces health-related multimedia products, clearly would rather show than tell. Whether it's a dramatic image of ruptured blood vessels caused by high blood sugar or a shot of an unhealthy retina damaged by hypertension, a picture may well be worth a thousand words. These pictures are so good, however, that the text tends to be overshadowed and fall flat. While this book is stunning to look at, there is actually very little new information concerning how to achieve the subtitle's promises. Interested readers will have likely heard, if not seen, much of it before. (Nov. 1)

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing visuals!, November 30, 2005
By
I took two Human Anatomy courses in college, and nothing I studied came close to the stunning visual detail of the cardiovascular system as presented in this book. And if you don't know the difference between an artery and a capillary, the Invision Guide provides an easy to follow crash course. I found the second half of the book to be especially informative -- the visuals explicitly show the benefits of a healthy lifestyle on your cardiovascular system vs. the damage done by unhealthy habits. My uncle recently had bypass surgery, and I wish this book was available years ago so he would have taken preventative measures.

This is the third book of Alexander Tsiaras' that I have purchased. As with his other two books, the fascinating images tell the truly amazing story of the human animal.

Thanks to Mr. Tsiaras, I will think twice about eating those salty, fatty foods I love - dammit!

4.0 out of 5 stars Scary scary stuff :-(), November 26, 2005
By
This book is scary yet amazing yet strangely uninformative. The pictures/photos are unique and graphic and shows you what can happen when you choose an unhealthy lifestyle. It is a wake up call. However, the book fails to truely impress due to lack of information to go along with these fantastic images. Not for the faint of heart.
