Biography

Buckethead is the enigmatic and prolific guitarist and composer, who allows himself to be identified only by the superior skill of his virtuoso guitar playing. Although he has enjoyed significant success as a solo artist and soundtrack writer, he has also formed many notable collaborations with respected peers from the musical world, including Serj Tankian, Guns N’ Roses and Bill Laswell’s Praxis.… Read more in Amazon's Buckethead Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Music for people with short attention spans, July 19, 2006

This review is from: Inbred Mountain (Audio CD)
A friend of mine once told me that the great thing about the Misfits was by the time you realized you didn't like a song, it was over and then came a song you probably would like. This album is kind of like that in that if you don't dig what Buckethead is playing at any given point, just wait 30 seconds and he'll be playing something entirely different. Although, I doubt you'll have too many moments like that.

The single best word to describe this album is schizophrenic. It's almost as if Bucket sat down, started fiddling around with a riff but didn't want to get bored with it so he took the song in a completely different direction. And he repeated this approach for every song on the album. The result is awesome. The album is all over the place but at the same time, it feels like a natural progression (I don't know how he did that). There are stand out songs on here but I have to just throw this on from beginning to end everytime I listen to it becuase it is just that kind of album.

On a side note, I feel that right now Buckethead is putting out the best music of his career. Cuckoo Clocks, Population Override, this, Kaleidoscalp, and Elephant Man's Alarm Clock (I could easily include Enter the Chicken but I want to focus on his instrumental stuff)...those albums have some of the best, most engaging riffs I've ever heard. Rather than playing off themes (robots, monsters, theme parks, monsters in themeparks, robots fighting monsters, etc) like he did with his earlier work, now he is letting his guitar set the theme. It is absolutely incredible. His older stuff made me a fan of his abilties, this stuff changing the way I think about music. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars composition and soloing, June 10, 2011
By
This review is from: Inbred Mountain (Audio CD)
BH is a master soloist, but many of his songs are mostly melodies and solos constructed around very simple riffs and structures.
In this CD however, he does some amazing stuff regarding song structure, which, as another reviewer said, are made up of rapid successions of riffs melting and morphing into the next.
This is top of the line BH material and also a good starting point to appreciating his quirky but more accessible side, which can be further heard in Funnel Weaver, Crime Slunk Scene, Pepper's Ghost and Decoding the Tomb of Bansheeboot.
For BH newcomers:
If you would like to hear BH's wonderful mellow facet, then try Colma, Electric Tears, Population Override and A Real Diamond in the Rough.IMO, these are his most accessible works.
Diehard fans who also appreciate his extreme and surrealistic excursions will readily recommend The Elephant Man's Alarm Clock, Cuckoo Clock from Hell or Bucketheadland, but go into these works only if you are into very exotic, sometimes atonal mixes of speedmetal, experimental music and deranged humor.
INBRED MOUNTAIN is one of BH's top 5 and he is certainly one of the most original voices in avant-garde rock today.

As a rabid Buckethead fan, all I can say about this is that this is one of the best and I think this CD is one of the best for beginning Buckethead fans. The music is very accessible and fun to listen to, whereas some of his other work can be a little hard for outsiders to get into.
