An outstanding story of the search for the sacrificed young princesses at the peaks of the mountains in Peru. Dr. Reinhard is a brilliant and courageous man. He and his party scaled these monstrous peaks to find the ruins of the Incas and is so doing discovered the body of the "Ice Princess", a nearly perfectly preserved body of the young girl sacrifices several hundred years ago by the Incas.

Further, Dr. Reinhard displayed his intelligence, courage and perseverance in making sure the mummy was preserved properly, refusing to release her to the government bureaucrats.

Fascinating questions remain: How did the Incas scale those lofty peaks with the young girl to be sacrificed without all the massive trappings used by modern mountain climbers? Evidence found at the top of the mountains shows that even in these modern times, the grave robbers have managed to get there -- first!

I highly recommend this book.

Fantastic pictures and excellent descriptions. I know very little about high altitude archeology but this book was easy to read and made the subject very interesting. Maps and drawings, as well as several appendices at the end, are very helpful. Should inspire anyone to learn more about this field.
