Customer Questions & Answers

It is holding up well and is very sturdy.

I have a keyboard cover for my iPad but the keys are too cramped and hurt my wrists if I type too long so I'm glad I got this for my Apple keyboard!
Carlos Mejia
Case works fantastic with the Apple Wireless keyboard and provides the perfect amount of support for the iPad as well.

I'm just back from MacWorld 2012 and the theme there was definitely accessories/must-have items for iPads and other iOS devices. Keyboards were everywhere. I tried them all--from the two Zagg versions to little "clip-on" plastic frames that make typing easier with the iPad's on-screen keyboard to the Adonit keyboard/case combo and the lesser-known keyboard brands. I typed on every keyboard solution I discovered at the event. I'm a writer and much of what I do involves typing so keyboards are something I'm particular about. The keyboard must be large enough to type quickly, the shift keys (on both sides) must be logically placed as well as those apostrophes and other commonly-used keys.

That's why I still return to the Apple Bluetooth Keyboard as the optimal typing input for iOS devices--and the Incase Origami Workstation allows me to carry and use that keyboard with ease. The Origami has a low-profile, minimalist (and lightweight) design which doesn't add much bulk to the keyboard when it's snapped in for carrying. Dust/objects can still enter into the sides (this is not a "closed" case), but that's not an issue for me; decide if it would be for you.

I like that the Origami Workstation doesn't just carry the Apple Bluetooth Keyboard but also quickly folds open to prop my iPad at an optimal angle for viewing while typing. Because it's not a dedicated or clamshell case, it can work with the iPad1 or iPad2 models. My guess, unless they change the form of the iPad3 a lot, is that it will work with it, too, when it's released.

I keep my iPad in a folio-type case almost all of the time (the Switcheasy Canvas) and the Origami Workstation doesn't require me to remove my iPad from the Canvas in order to prop it up for typing.

There are several bluetooth keyboard alternatives for the iPad. If you use the Apple Wireless Keyboard this combination keyboard case/iPad stand is a must have. The keyboard snaps into place securely and the "foldable" cover holds the iPad at precisely the correct angle for typing in either landscape or portrait orientation. An additional benefit is that the stand works for either iPad model and with an iPad fitted with a back cover and the Apple SmartCover. I suspect, in fact, it would work with most iPad cases that don't add a lot of thickness to the overall package. It should be noted, though, that while the OW holds the keyboard securely, there is no attachment for the iPad itself. Thus, the iPad can be dislodged from the "workstation" easily. Obviously that's both an advantage and a potential disadvantage.

I've been using the Origami Workstation for three months and have not experienced any problems with "velcro detachment." However, I reduced the overall rating from 5 to 4 primarily on the basis of appearance. The OW cover is a rubberized plastic, not especially classy and I've found that it discolors easily from wear. Not a big deal given the cost of the item, especially since the discoloration has occurred at the base of the "hinge" where it's not visible while in use. But if looks trump functionality, you may be disappointed.

All in all, the Origami Workstation is an excellent design, implemented in a slightly less than excellent form. But if you're looking for protection for the Apple Wireless Keyboard combined with an excellent stand for text entry, the Origami Workstation stands alone.

Bought this so I could type easier with my iPad. It works geat. I have heard about the velcro tabs coming off but i have not had this problem after 1 month of opening and closing the workstation. I like the way it folds up to hold and protect the keyboard. It is sturdy when opened and holds the iPad in either mode.

This case/stand taken together with the perfectly sized (not too big not too small) Apple wireless keyboard is PERFECTION. I actually bought it knowing that the glue on the velcro sucks. I will bring it back at some point or more likely crazy glue it myself. I looked at the other Ipad keyboard solutions and all are a bit flawed one way or the other.

I love that I don't need to adulterate my Ipad experience in any way. I don't really need to take it out of the case but it looks more Bondian that way so I do. Also when I get an Ipad 2 there are no issues because it (elegantly) leans against the sane sturdy clips that hold the keyboard. I can use it or not -pack it or not. And no Rube Goldberg Ipad cum laptop case to carry.

Finally go have a look at the reviews for the Apple wireless keyboard before you decide but believe me this one is a no-brainer.

This is a great case, and I love it EVEN THOUGH THE VELCRO STINKS!

After about 3 months of regular use, the velcro lost its ability to stick to itself.
The patches are still securely attached to the case, but they don't hold reliably.

SO... I carry one of those big paper clips with wings that you can use to hold a large clump of paper together.
Slip it over the velcro tabs, voila -- stable, secure, and off we go.

The only problem I have with the Origami is two weeks after giving it as a present, one of the velcro pieces fell off. I've super glued it back on for the time being. Kind of disappointing.

Everything else about it is great. The weight, the feel, the folding are all wonderful. For the lean back typing experience, it can't be beat.
