Editorial Reviews

Inch High, diminutive operative of the Finkerton Detective Agency, stands tall against the forces of perfidy, making Saturday mornings safe for all good citizens from the halcyon year of 1973 to today. Ably aided by niece Lori, her hulking boyfriend Gator and his loyal dog Braveheart, Inch High uses his pint-sized stature to foil the most complex and nefarious of schemes. Whether battling Spumoni the Great, Mr. Midas, or King Ra, or teaming up with the likes of Super Flea and Goldie, the world's greatest goldfish, Inch High's stalwart heart always shines through despite his picayune stature and sometimes less-than-stellar mental gymnastics. Junior crime-fighters will find a complete collection of Inch's adventures spread across this 13-Episode, 2-Disc Collection. Featuring the voice work of Lennie Weinrib (H.R. Pufnstuf) as Inch High and Don Messick as Braveheart as well as a memorable theme contributed by the great Hoyt Curtin.

This product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy will apply.

This product is expected to play back in DVD Video "play only" devices, and may not play in other DVD devices, including recorders and PC drives.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another forgotten gem from Hanna-Barbera May 5, 2012
For anyone who grew up in the late 60's and early 70's, Saturday mornings simply weren't complete without a healthy does of cartoons from Hanna-Barbera studios. These colorful and fun programs may not have been the best animated shows in the world, but they were more than enough for us kids.

Inch High Private Eye (1973) only lasted one season, but I think it holds up as well as most HB shows from the same era. Mysteries and crime-solving, typically with young protagonists and some kind of animal, were the studio's bread and butter. And while the dimunitive hero of Inch High stands out among his animated peers, the show doesn't stray far from the tried-and-true formula. Inch has his young human sidekicks Lori (for a 5 year old boy in 1973, the prettiest girl outside of Josie & the Pussycats), her beefy boyfriend Gator, and canine companion Braveheart (voiced by Scooby Doo's Don Messick). Their adventures pit them against the standard assortment of larger-than-life baddies, monsters, etc.

While the show may be a hard sell for today's kids accustomed to a faster pace, I think it holds up quite well for those who enjoyed it growing up. Like all cartoons from its era, it's all perfectly innocent, largely non-violent, and witty in a juvenile sort of way.

As with all their recent made-on-demand relases, Warner Bros. has given this one the "no frills" treatment. All you get is the cartoons, spread over 2 discs. There are no subtitles or other language tracks. Picure and audio quality are quite good, although it is obvious no extensive remastering has been done. I viewed the discs on my Blu-ray player on a 52" screen and was mostly satisfied with the results. Definitely recommended for fans of the show, or anyone who likes "old school" Saturday morning fun. :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars REVISITING A CLASSIC - INCH HIGH PRIVATE EYE September 2, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
INCH EYE PRIVATE EYE was a delightfully entertaining ('73) animation series from the Hanna-Barbera stable that aired on Saturday mornings.

Inch High is a tiny gumshoe miniature detective who went around investigating and solving mysteries in his "hushmobile", while often being assisted by his niece "Lorie", her muscle bound friend "Gator", and their dog "Braveheart" (who attracts calamity as easily as fleas). Inch worked for the "Finkerton Detective Agency" where his boss, Mr. Finkerton is continuosly looking for a way to dismiss Inch (due to some of his 'antics' while in Mr. Finkerton's employment), to no avail!

PRINCIPLE CAST
LENNY WEINRIB - "Inch High"
KATHY GORI - "Lori"
BOB LUTELL - "Gator"
DON MESSICK - "Braveheart"
JOHN STEPHENSON - "Mr. Finkerton"
JEAN VANDER PYL - "Mrs. Finkerton"

The episode list for this two disc set is as follows:

1. DIAMONDS ARE A CROOK'S BEST FRIEND - Mrs. Gotrocks is just opening her safe when a shadowy figure tries to grab her entire collection of diamonds. She is able to close the safe just in time to save them. She places a call to the Finkerton Agency which in turn calls Inch High.
2. YOU OUGHT TO BE IN PICTURES - Inch High goes after the villain who tries to steal the diamond necklace. Unfortunately he gets caught in a book and has to get through the courses to get into the real world again.
3. THE SMUGGLERS - The shipyard has become a magnet for criminals and thugs. The biggest problem is a group of smugglers using Zappos Imports as a cover for their operation.
4. COUNTERFEIT STORY - The Last National Bank discovers that the money in their vault has all been replaced with counterfeit cash. It is the third bank in a week that has been hit by the counterfeiters. Inch High discovers that Mr. Midas is behind the crimes and sets out to catch him.
5. MUMMY'S CURSE - Inch High is on the way to Egypt to investigate reports of a mummy coming back to life and creating havoc.
6. THE DOLL MAKER - Spumoni, the great doll maker has made an army of dolls with which he plans on using to steal all of the fur coats in town. Inch High and his Finkerton Detective Agency pals only have 24 hours to stop him.
7. MUSIC MAESTRO - The great conductor Marieso Manufique is about to perform his last concert before he retires. Inch High has noticed a pattern of crimes when compared to where the symphony has been performing. Inch is out to prove his case since Manufique plans to leave the country directly after the last show.
8. DUDE CITY - While at a dude ranch, Inch High mixes in with a group of criminals and shuns his friends. When he discovers that they are criminals, he devises a plan to stop them and reunite with his old friends.
9. HIGH FASHION - Inch High must devise a plan to stop a fashion designer intent on kidnapping his only competitor.
10. CAT BURGLARS - Every famous work of art in the world is being stolen and the police are baffled. Inch High is ordered to guard a copy of the Pink Lady which is traveling on a separate train to confuse the crooks.
11. THE WORLD'S GREATEST ANIMALS - B.T. Farnham wants all of the world's greatest animals for his circus. Since none of them are for sale, he has his henchman steal them for him. Can Inch High stop the crime spree and return the animals to their rightful owners?
12. SUPER FLEA - A scientist invents a super detective in the form of a mechanical flea which threatens to take Inch High's job. The super flea is stolen and now it's up to Inch High to find him. If he doesn't he will be fired. If he does he will be replaced. Can Inch High find the missing flea and keep his job?
13. THE RETURN OF SPUMONI - The evil Spumoni returns to town to get revenge on Inch High and his friends. He is, of course, the great dollmaker. He plans to steal a valuable "Pichelangelo" statue that is being guarded by the Pinkerton Agency.

Picture quality is great.
Delightful cartoon classic that's really worth adding to any library.
