1.0 out of 5 stars Cheap, Fragile, Impractical: Worst I have EVER seen!, December 2, 2011

This review is from: 60 Inch Tiki Torch (set Of 6) Bronze Tulip Tiki Torches
This is absolute junk. I bought them to replace my 6-y.o. tiki torches i bought at the Home Depot. Those were made out of wrought iron, weighing a ton, with a double point on the bottom, going 10 inches or so into ground. Once I installed my old torches, they stood there as solid as commercial metal beams. But... they were outside and time takes its toll: a bit of rust, a lot of problems with water damaging the actual oil jars...

So, I searched for something similarly priced and bought these torches. First, each individual torch leg is actually shipped in three parts made of a hair-thin hollow soft pipe, which needs to be screwed one-into-another. You end up with a hollow stick that is extremely light, thin, and has three seams. Because the stick is hollow, it needs a point to go into the ground. That point is provided in the form of a plastic cone that must be inserted into the bottom end. The oil jar screws onto top of this pipe-stick. Everything must be done very gently, as the metal is extremely soft and very thin. Insertion into soil must be absolutely vertical. Otherwise, the pole will simply bend and crack.

I have realized all of these points during assembly of the first torch and finished successfully and without damage. Nevertheless, at least one of these torches will never get used, not even once. That is because after the recent storms, the wind was wobbling them and one of the torches cracked into two right at one of the seams! No, we have not had any hurricanes, or even major storms here in Maryland. That particular torch was simply sitting in an open area and wobbling it back-and-forth overnight was enough to cause its pole to crack in half!

Stay away. DO NOT BUY!!! Just tie a table oil lamp to a broom and stick that into the ground. I'd bet it will last longer.
