4.0 out of 5 stars Taking over the metal scene
This CD is a great major label debut. Learning the ropes first on Ozzfest 2000, then going back out on the road with Soulfly and downset., this band is great. Being backed by Ozzy himself on his record label, Divine, doesn't hurt either. Songs like 'I Can't Die' and 'Fallout' display the extremes the vocalist can go through. The crunchy guitar work makes this a great,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Nu Metal ~ Sam Kinison?
Nu Metal is far from my favorite Genre of music but if you like(d) Sam Kinison then you will probably like this CD. The lead singer yells like Kinison and the cursing is all Sam on this CD. Who knows maybe he isn't dead afterall - hence song #3 "I Can't Die"... Happy April Fool's Day

5.0 out of 5 stars A big change, but still a great band!, October 12, 2000
By

Right from the start you could hear a change. From "Pushing Me" right through to "Leader of Losers" you can tell Slaves On Dope went for a harder, more powerful sound. From their previous album "One Good Turn Deserves Another" it's easy to see the change, but they have not lost a step. I was amazed by the sounds of this new cd, just finding myself sucked right in from start to end. Jason's voice was outstanding on the first cd, but on "Inches from the Mainline" he just took it up a notch. Adding the powerful voice of his, just being able to scream away making the song that much more hard hitting. Not once could I stop listening, and nor will I ever. Slaves On Dope, a great band to come from Montreal, and glad to see them rising higher.

5.0 out of 5 stars They're From Canada???, December 18, 2001
By
Alan Brown (St. Petersburg, Russia) - See all my reviews
No offense, but I haven't heard much good music from there. This CD kicks ass. The first song is pretty funny, even though it's four seconds long. The lead singer sings mostly about doing drugs, I think. The lyrics are really good. My favorite songs are the first six (even though the first isn't even a "real" song), but my favorite has to be "I Can't Die." For some reason I really like the chorus, even though I don't quite get it.

This album makes you want to sing along and head-bang and air-guitar and air-drum and jump and scream and...

Well, just get it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid offering, November 9, 2007
First of all, how could you not want to check out a band with such a name? Slaves on Dope's "Inches from the Mainline" is an intense album from the start. While they developed a strong fan base through their appearance on Ozzfest, the Canadian rockers put out respectable nu-metal offering.

"Fallout", "Inches from the Mainline", and "No More Faith" all combine lead vocalist Jason Rockman's shrieking with somewhat melodic choruses from bassist Frank Salvaggio that give the band its distinctive sound. "Pushing Me", "Leader of Losers", and "Stick it Up" follow the nu metal formula. Moments of Wah Wah pedal and tremolo effects throughout the album show a degree of creativity on the part of the band's guitarist, Kevin Jardine. "I Can't Die" is a slower song, for the most part, but the vocals are not turned down at all. The song is screamed from start to finish, highlighting Rockman's ability to scream his lungs out.

There are many other bands out there that are similar to Slaves, but Slaves are better than most at what they do. The musicianship and vocal assault that made them such a great live act to see in the early 2000's truely shows on "Inches from the Mainline".
