Ms. Sarai is definitely my favorite erotic writer. I read Raw Silk and loved it, though I nearly fainted from the hot sex scenes. Incognito is even better. With Incognito Ms. Sarai has come more surely into her writing powers and provides the reader with an interesting and absorbing plot. 3.0 out of 5 stars Good ideas, badly written
This book had a great variety of terrific sex scenes, but the author cannot write dialogue to save her life. They all end up sounding like wooden Indians. There is also excessive fixation on butts. But other than that, she gets a wide variety of experiences. the hero is a fun and intriguing character, even if he does turn out to be a bit too good to be true in places. It...

5.0 out of 5 stars Have you ever wanted to live that other 'erotic' life ...., August 3, 2002

well, in this book our heroine, Miranda, decides to take on the persona and lifestyle of Lucy, her incorrigibly sluttish roomate that takes off with a new lover du jour .....

Miranda, having had only one lover in her 24 years of life moves to Boston to start her doctoral work on 'Victorian Erotic Literature' .. although it seems like a strange choice considering her previous lifestle Miranda manages to 'borrow' the persona, some of the clothes and even friends and cyber contacts of her roomate as she, literally, hits the streets in search of erotic and sexual adventures.

I have read Raw Silk by this author and this is a completely unique erotic book and emphazises this authors ability to write real life type of stories that virtually sizzle on the pages. As a young American, Miranda is a highly believable character as she begins to understand what happens to women that finally allow their bodies to enjoy what their minds had feared to think about .....

Its hot hot hot and Im looking foreward to more works ......

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious!, March 10, 2002

I had almost given up on the current crop of erotic novels, because too many of them have predictable story lines, two dimensional characters and flimsy plotting. However, Incognito is really something different. Sarai skillfully combines the present day storyline with some tantalizing Victorian history. This book is well researched, erudite, well plotted and very sexy. Highly recommended.

But other than that, she gets a wide variety of experiences. the hero is a fun and intriguing character, even if he does turn out to be a bit too good to be true in places. It can also be a bit too much of the same thing when she recreates the scenes from the Victorian erotic diary. On the whole, though, a good read. Especially the end in London.

4.0 out of 5 stars Incognito, May 19, 2008
This review is from: Incognito (Mass Market Paperback)
Having been hurt by her first lover years before, Miranda now spends all her time working on her academic pursuits. The only thing she allows herself to truly care about is her study of Victorian erotica. Though she'd like to meet someone, she gets nervous and withdraws when she meets a man she might actually like. When her uninhibited roommate Lucy takes her out to a club, she is shocked to find herself engaging in wild, anonymous sex in a cloakroom. Her secret desires come out then and she begins to act on them, but at the same time she draws back every time her attractive colleague Mark tries to make any type of advance.

Miranda finally allows herself to begin to spend time with Mark, but she is hiding many secrets. Her sexual awakening, fueled by a Victorian diary she found, is changing her in unexpected and sometimes frightening ways. Unknown to Miranda, Mark is hiding something as well. Will the secrets tear them apart, or bring them closer together?

I will preface this review by saying Incognito is not for the faint of heart. The genre description doesn't even begin to describe what goes on in this book. If you don't like anonymous sex, fairly hardcore BDSM, same-sex activity, multi-partner activity, etc., don't pick this book up. That said, however, Incognito is a very hot read. The parallel-storyline device using Miranda's sexual awakening and the activities of the woman, Beatrice, in the Victorian diary, was well done and interesting. I could understand Miranda's reluctance to get involved again after being so badly hurt by her first lover. Her love interest, Mark, initially seemed kind and sweet, but had hidden depths. Most of the (many, many) sex scenes were well written and hot. Unfortunately, I wasn't feeling the romance at all. Incognito read more like pure erotica to me. Miranda had several one-night stands with strangers, one or two of which kind of freaked me out. Her behavior at times was completely reckless and even dangerous, and a few times I thought I'd be offering her the name of a good therapist if she were a real person. While I can appreciate a bit of kink, Miranda and Mark never seemed to connect in any way other than through their mutual desire for ever more risky sex. If you're in the mood for lots of hot sex without much emotion, Incognito will fit the bill. If you want more connection and romance, however, look elsewhere.

3.0 out of 5 stars victorian erotica vs present day anonymous sex, August 11, 2003
By
girldiver "Enjoy!" (tangled up in blue.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Incognito (Mass Market Paperback)
I am a big fan of Ms. Sarai since "Raw Silk". So I eagerly wanted to read this book. Although, I was fascinated by the characters by day persona and intrigued by her sexual exploits by night I found this book not as engaging as "Raw Silk" but still very good and worth the read.

This book has two different plot lines running through it; the Main character Miranda our doctorate student by day researching victorian erotica for her thesis and the secret life of Beatrice a woman from the victorian age who Miranda stumbles on looking for evidence of erotic truth of the victorian time via an old journal of Beatrices thoughts and erotic sexual exploits.

I found the two plot lines weaved together rather well and I was equally interested in both women.

Miranda takes a risky and dangerous journey of erotic pleasure indulging in anonymous consensual sex and discovers her own sexual power and weakness but I felt like I would rather learn more about Mark her sexual partner. Maybe Ms. Sarai will write a book for him or someone similar. If you enjoyed "Raw Silk and Ruby's Rules" you will enjoy this book also.

I enjoy Ms. Sarais writing style and look forward to more books by her.

This book was hard to put down. I was soo wrapped in the plot and the courage of the main character, time flew by and I read this book in an afternoon! If you like hot steamy encounters and fantasy brought to life, this book is a must. If you are sqeamish about non-monogamous sex, this book is not for you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Distracting, but could be better, April 4, 2003

This review is from: Incognito (Mass Market Paperback)
Lisabet Sarai's evocative Black Lace entry "Raw Silk" was an experience to remember back in the spring of '99. Dark, intense, and full of mind-blowing escapades, one practically had to read it three pages at a time, so intense were its thrills both in anticipation and arrival. But Sarai's two new long-awaited followups, "Ruby's Rules" and "Incognito", are somewhat mellower. Of the two, I admit that "Incognito", though more anxiously anticipated, was less enjoyable. Sarai's care for the craft of writing is still in evidence, but our shy, submissive heroine is not very believably shy or submissive. Rather than being an erotic wallflower who is awakened, to her own shock and dismay, to fleshly excess, Miranda comes off as a bad girl who mopes for a minute about being shy and repressed before she springs into action in the wildest of scenarios. After awhile, listening to people tell Miranda that she needs to come out of her repression becomes as ridiculous as someone telling Christina Aguilera to spruce up her wardrobe. I miss those nuances and am rather surprised that Sarai didn't pursue them. Also, I am a bit curious as to how spandex suddenly usurped latex and leather as the fetishwear du jour! But "Incognito" isn't without its rewards. The Victorian journal Miranda peruses allows some variety, and her colleague Mark is a welldrawn and likeable character. Sarai likes to spring physically extreme (if improbable) acts on the reader, which is a plus for fantasy. Still, for all of its physical kinks I feel "Incognito" misses out on the psychological frissons that Sarai is capable of. Miranda's dark journey of awakening feels more like a party-girl lark.

5.0 out of 5 stars superb erotic writing, May 29, 2002

I thoroughly agree with the previous two reviewers. This is a superb erotic novel that manages to both intelligent and sizzling hot at the same time. The writing is beautiful, both in the modern sections and in the Victorian diary discovered by the heroine, and the two voices provide a fascinating contrast. I especially loved the developing relationship between Miranda and Mark. He sounds like my ideal kind of sexual hero, and she is full of spirit, wit and an engaging combination of daring and vulnerability.

Please do yourself a huge favour and read this exceptional book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incognito is smart, sexy, insightful, hot fun!, May 14, 2002

This review is from: Incognito (Mass Market Paperback)
Incognito has everything I want in a story - well-drawn, complex characters in the midst of interesting personal changes; sizzling steaming hot imaginative rompings in every chapter, with each scene on its own hot enough to stir-fry on, and essential to advancing the plot; a parallel Victorian storyline that is brilliantly integrated; transportation to exotic surroundings rich with sensory overloads...

After finishing Incognito, I was sated, and grateful to have been invited into the personal journeys of two beautiful, strong, passionate women. I felt like I had gained new companions for my imagination as well enjoyed some truly fabulous entertwinings! You will not be disappointed with this novel.
