Editorial Reviews

Frank Chodorov was an extraordinary thinker and writer, and hugely influential in the 1950s. This is his American classic that argues that the income tax, more than any other legislative change in American history, made it possible to violate individual rights that were at the core of the founding. He argues that income taxes are different from other forms because they deny the right of private property and presume government control over all things. The introduction is by former IRS commissioner J. Bracken Lee. 91 pages, 6" x 9", paperback

Found this gem, to my great surprise in the university library-it gave articulation to everything brooding in me that I felt to be wrong with the idea and execution of the income tax. Radical doesn't begin to describe this. Get it from the Mises Institute (mises.org) and help fund the continued printing and study of works like these.

I was very pleased about most of the content of this book. It reveals the turning point in American history where we went from a relatively free and open market and society to a centrally controlled, progressive, socialistic economy. My only disappointment was the complete avoidance of discussion of the Federal Reserve Act of 1913, which in my opinion was the major reason for preparing the way with the Income Tax just months before. Without the Income Tax, the Federal Reserve does not have the guarantees it needs to underwrite US, Federal Government Debt. And, without the ability to monetize it's debt the two parties do not have the liquidity to wage world wars, rebuild countries after the ravages of war, buy alliances worldwide through guaranteed loans, and expand Federal Government programs beyond the current savings/capital of the American people. It's a very clever and well hidden process to most Americans today, and virtually none of them realize the slow and steady process that's been at work for 100 years now to fundamentally "change" our free market system with small government to that of a progressive, socialistic system of control. It all started with the Income Tax and the Federal Reserve in 1912, 1913.

All of us are to blame for this disaster. Both major political parties have been the victims of this movement. Neither party today has the understanding of the root of the problem, and without this knowledge the solutions will only treat the symptoms. The result will be catastrophic to our country.

First off, this is an absolutely fantastic book. Short and concise, this book is a powerful tool in shaping your mind to get your liberty back that we all deserve. This book is not for the liberal or progressive but it's a great lesson in history of tyranny. I especially loved the first half of the book with it's wisdom in politics and what makes politicians tick. It even brings up Social Security and it's long term prospects... not good. In summary, this book could have been written today and it's never been more important to read than right now.

Easy to read and understand. The 16th amendment IS the root of many of our problems and the repeal of it will solve these problems easier and faster than any other suggestions. In fact, any other suggestion to fix our problems won't work as long as there is an income tax.

Chodorov writes then as if it were today. Easy to read and prophetic. This book goes long to show that taxes are not patriotic and how their power increases by the amount we allow our central authority to steal our property.
Great book not promoted by those in power because, well, control breeds control. It goes through the history and lies brought by the 16th amendment and the men who promoted it. Super book, not long and easy to understand Chodorov's writing is great.
This is a great first book to delve into liberty based writing. Highly recommend.

Truly, we are funding our own demise as citizens. Our Federal government has co-opted the functions of our States, and become an overweening extortionist bureaucracy whose main concerns are power and control.

The Internal Rape Service have set up and are operating a system that has proven to be the root of great evil in our nation. The IRS code is thousands of pages of pure BS. Not even the guys and gals at the IRS understand it. Pretty much all give different answers to the same question. For the future safety and growth of our nation the IRS needs to be shut down completely and forever.
A flat tax, easy to figure, understand and report is the best, most honest way to tax a people. That tax method should require all pay some % of their gross income - NO FREE RIDERS ANYMORE! Guess that is why our Lord and Savior established the tithing law. Surely HE is more intelligent than they all!
