Book Description

Even pacifists have their limits.

Being a partner in genocide is unimaginable for a peaceful, inept shape shifter like Grainne. But when her husband Slyxx holds her medieval homeland hostage for a seemingly worthless ransom she doesn't have, the inconceivable happens. Despite growing despair, Grainne can't let go of believing that survivors do exist, and it's up to her to find them. When she detects an error in translation of a set of mysterious scrolls penned by a missing order of priestesses, she resolves to find the women she believes can lead her to survivors.

What Grainne doesn't realize is that she already knows the missing priestesses, and some of them are working to stop her from uncovering a secret alliance threatening her world. Even worse, the key to saving her world is inside of her, and someone will stop at nothing to have it. Grainne is about to learn just how naïve she really is when she discovers the stars aren't what she thought they were . . . and neither is she.

***IMPORTANT.  Please read: The Shifting Worlds Universe is the setting for a serial
story. Please be aware that "serial" means some parts are just that: parts. They are meant to be read in sequence, and they do contain some cliffhangers. That's why the parts are being published in rapid succession. I don't want readers to have to wait overly long to find out what happens.

For those who don't enjoy serial publications, there is another option. Readers who would rather read each book as a complete volume will be able to buy each novel (all parts in one book) before the subsequent book's first part is published. That way, they'll have plenty of time to catch up before the story continues.

About Incorrigible - A note from the author

Welcome to my shifting worlds!

When I began writing this story, it was a medieval fantasy, and its main character was the same one in the current version of the story. A few years into the actual writing of it, I realized the story had potential to be something very different from its beginnings. While I enjoyed writing medieval fantasy, my muse nagged me to paint a larger canvas for the characters' intertwining stories. The story I longed to tell couldn't be told in just one world, and I wasn't wholly comfortable doing so. I struggled with the idea of genre-blending for quite a while, and then, the notion of Shifting Worlds popped into my head like a neurological Big Bang.

The Shifting Worlds universe is a blended setting for readers of medieval fantasy and readers of soft science fiction. Each book in the first trilogy is set in the Shifting Worlds Universe. The first book takes place in an Earth-like medieval fantasy environment. The other books in the trilogy are set on multiple worlds, each with its own special flavor and degree of social evolution.

About the Author

Morgen Rich grew up in the southwestern U.S., where the sky reminds humans just how small they really are. Staring up at a sky stretching into forever prompted her to wonder what was there, and thus, her writing career in speculative fiction began. She lives mostly in Pennsylvania with her husband and two Great Pyrenees, Bianca and Tahoe. On occasion, she lives in Lincoln, England.

Morgen will be first to say that no author is an island. Fantasy by female authors Marion Zimmer Bradley, Octavia Butler, and Anne McCaffrey has had a strong influence on Morgen's imagination and writing. She'll tell you that The Mists of Avalon gave her a different perspective on Celtic medieval fantasy, that the Xenogenesis Trilogy showed her how complex human beings can be, and that The Dragonriders of Pern destroyed every notion she had of genre boundaries. She cherishes the insight, support, and camaraderie of fellow members of the Dragon Writers Collective--indie authors Brian Rathbone, MR Mathias, Tom Bielawski, and Scott Baughman. She promotes the work of women writers of science fiction, fantasy, and horror through her membership in the non-profit organization Broad Universe.

Her current project is a speculative fiction series. It begins with Incorrigible: Secrets Past & Present, which was initially released as a serial novel. Incorrigible is also Book One of The Staves of Warrant, an epic science fantasy trilogy set in the Shifting Worlds universe. Books Two (Discordant: Kin Foreign & Familiar) and Three (Seditious: Promises Broken & Bound) will be available in 2014.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hard to make sense of October 14, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This story is about a woman named Grainne. She is a shape-shifter married to an evil man. This story is about her suffering through her marriage until the opportunity arises to escape. But there is a subplot in the book (and this is the part I find confusing) that has to do with a religious order and Priestesses. I am not sure how that part fits into the story. The Priestesses are powerful but have a definite chain of command within their order. Grainne has some scrolls about how to tap into that power, but it doesn't really make sense in this book - maybe in the other books in the series it will. I also have a very hard time with how abusive the husband is and how Grainne can even put up with him and pretend to like him after the atrocities he committed. I found the relationships Grainne has with the other characters confusing. I already mentioned how horrible her husband is and she thinks horrible thoughts about him, but I found her actions don't match those thoughts. Then she is also under watch by a person named Lan who is another species and Grainne seems to have a love/hate relationship with him that is confusing. He at first seems nice, then they are enemies and don't get along, and then they join forces. I think the author needs to do a bit of clarifying on points and more consistency.

(Disclosure: I received a free copy of the book to review, however complimentary copies do not guarantee that I will review the book, and do not sway my opinion on the story.)

This is a great start to a series - keep in mind that it was released in serial form so each part is a small episode that leads directly into the next. We start with the story of Grainne - as she watches her world fall apart. Her people are killed and her kingdom is destroyed - all at the hands of her husband. She is determined to see it rebuilt again and to see him die for the crime.

We also start the story of Euryale, a priestess. While it is not clear where exactly these two stories will collide there are a few hints scattered about that give us some ideas of where, if not when. The story primarily follows Grainne and her struggle to escape the captivity that has been forced on her. She is quite a clever one at times, and truly seems to care about the people of her kingdom and not just the title and land. I'm very interested to see what she does in the second episode.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incorrigible? Perhaps. Incredible? Absolutely! July 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the first offering from freshman author Morgen Rich....and wow! It is a richly woven tapestry of characters and story written in a concise, straightforward style that dispenses almost completely with flowery prose or 20 dollar words that leave you scrambling for a dictionary, but still grabs you and doesn't let go, even after the last word on the page. Part two is already out, and at only a dollar more than this story, is WELL worth a look.
