The Incra's Guaranteed Square 7-Inch Precision Square features an accurate, advanced design and fabrication, and carves out a single monolithic blade from a solid slab of hardened aluminum. This means you won't see the alignment errors that can happen when a separate blade is manually assembled to a separate handle, as in the more common two-piece design. Solid, rugged and beautiful, the hefty construction of the 1/4-inch solid alloy body and the 3/4-inch thick integrated alloy handle just feels right in the palm of your hand. Unlike conventional two-piece designs, the layout angle of this rigid, one-piece body won't get bent out of shape when you drop it. The trademark gold and red hardened anodized surface is not only durable, but beautiful and it won't tarnish like brass.

These 45- and 90-degree squares are so precise that they come with a certificate of accuracy that guarantees each one has an angular maximum deviation from nominal of less than 0.001 inches at any point along the full length of the blade. Set cutting tools to the perfect angle, while a support lip holds the tool on the edge of the work piece for marking and layout. Combine this with modern, functional styling and you've got a tool that is worthy of the most prominent location in your display cabinet.

The big deal about this square is that the inside lip on the handle lets you set it down on an edge and it will support itself! No other square that I know of does this.
Also, I tested their claim of squareness and found that it is dead on.
A perfect tool

Look at where the red part meets the gold, there's a lip there. This lip lets you rest the red part over the edge of a board and it won't pivot down or tip over; it's a great feature. Because this tool is so accurate; I mainly bought it for aligning tools, which it has done flawlessly. Whenever I need a precision cut, this is the tool I reach for. If you can get over the price, you'll love it. It's dead on square too, inside AND out. Avoid the squares that have wood handles as changes in humidy change the squareness! Incra is hard to beat when it comes to precision instruments, and once again they've done a fine job.

I have used the Incra GSQR7 on several occasions (several friends have one), appreciate the design, and cannot understand the less than enthusiastic reviews. Did those reviewers not read the product description before purchase? The manufacturer made no claim about a "one piece design" tool. Instead, the claim is a single precision BLADE which extends fully into the handle area as opposed to conventional two-piece designs which attach a separate blade to a separate handle.

Did the reviewers not look at the picture and realize the handle grips, with obligatory screws, are obviously attached separately to that single monolithic blade/body? With conventional two-piece designs, the often separate grips are attached to a separate handle attached to a separate blade.

For truly precision results with this tool, only the blade surface (not the handle grips) should contact the work material (same with the Starrett 20-6 and similar precision designs). This requires a minor adjustment to the average work flow (the blade tilted slightly with the inside of that blade used for marking). If extreme precision is not needed at any given moment, the tool can be used normally (blade flat with handle grips against the work material). This latter use will often still provide above average results with these precision-oriented tools.

I have compared this square to the much more expensive Starrett 20-6 owned by an associate (a fanboy unwilling to accept anything without the Starrett name stamped on it) and found no difference in either accuracy or workmanship. The Starrett 20-6 uses the same single blade design, with only the blade (not handle grips) used for ultimate precision.

I once thought that when you bought a square and took it home, it was square. I just got this square today, and I am surprised with its quality and accuracy. I used it to check carpenter's squares, tri-squares, carpenter's speed squares and a precision Starrett branded machinest's square. Each was off up to .010" except the Starrett, which came in a close second this one. Not bad for the Starrett, since it is over 30 years old and has been dropped many times on a concrete floor. The INCRA is better than the Starrett, since the Starrett is rusted and pitted from years of sitting around in the garage shop.
I know that this is one of the best squares I've ever own and will own. My next purchase will the one with the 45 degree angle.

Solid, precise, a bit spendy, but worth it. I have this one and the 45 deg. 7" model. This one is rather large to keep in a shop apron, but is excellent for setting up machines which is the main reason I purchased it. Get the pair. Set up your machines to be dead on. You wallet will soon recover and life in the shop will be good.

I have owned this square for almost a year now, and I find myself using it more and more with each passing project. It, along with most other Taylor Design Group products, is well thought out and has superb machining. I took this tool to work and put it on a surface plate, and it is indeed accurate inside and outside to within .002 along the length of the blade. The part I truly appreciate is that it is as accurate using the inside 90 degree as it is using the outside 90 degree ( or 270 degree, however you look at it :). I routinely use this square to set up all my stationary equipment. To me a square is all about trust. I use this square to set up a tool, then put it away and let the tool do it's job. I own a Delta Beisemeyer for exactly the same reason.
The only draw back to this tool is the price. In the end, its just a piece of aluminum, anodized and all shiny, and it probably cost 8 bucks to make. I feel a lower price would be more appropriate, but in this case you certainly get what you pay for.

I am the happy owner/user on the Incra gauranteed sqaure. When I purchased it I was suspecious about "how square" it would actually be !? But I must say it is dead on, both on the inside and the outside. The idea with the base protruding from the handle to keep it form svinging down is nice ! It is very solid made and will last for years. I has improved my work, enabling me go get perfect squares. Great for setting up tools.
