First, the best advice I can give you on whether you need any of the incra rulers. Go to YouTube and search for "incra rules." You want to watch the video "INCRA Rules - Complete Version." It is about 8 and 1/2 minutes long and covers each of there rulers. From this video you will get a sense as to which ruler(s) might be useful to you.

Finally, here is what I can offer that you will not find in the You Tube video I recommended.

The holes for marking are so small you will need a .5mm mechanical pencil. Or, you will need to use your utility knife to whittle down a fine point on a regular pencil. I have been using the later method, but finally bought a mechanical pencil. Someone said in a review that they come with a mechanical pencil. Mine did not.

One final note. The incra rulers are made of thin, pliable metal. As such I would not be storing them in my tool bucket! This is not at all a criticism, it is just stating a fact.

I also own the "6-Inch and 3-Inch Precision Marking T-Rules" and the "Incra BNDRUL12 12-Inch Incra Precision Bend Rule" and find them just as useful as this product. They too are covered in the video I refer to above.

I am a huge fan of incra products.

Great product for straight and acurate lines for wood working. Just make sure you use a .5 mm lead pencil to get into the the small markings

The Incra Rule18 allowed me to produce a trammel jig for my router with extremely accurate placed pivot points. Before using the Incra rule, I unsuccessfully made three of these trammels using an excellent standard ruler and a magnifying glass to scribe target drill press points; I never hit the required mark. I am making a circular inlay pattern for a table top, which has 408-individual pieces. Errors greater than a few thousandths of an inch in the inlay pieces will throw off the entire pattern as they add up, e.g. an error of 0.004 will be misaligned by 1/8-inch in about 30-pieces, or about 3/8ths when the pattern completes the circle--completely unacceptable! With the ability to precisely mark 1/32" increments, the Incra rule allowed me to minimize this error and produce a trammel with pivot point spacing within extreme tolerances.

I think grooves in a ruler is a great idea - very accurate. The metal is thinner than I expected, I'm afraid to bend it.

When it comes to accuracy you need to think INCRA. I also have their edge ruler. Yhink of this item bent in the middle to 90 degrees. It is great for marking both edges at the same time. Their tools are made from high quality stainless and have supurbe accuracy.

Love this ruler, but have to treat it with special care...fragile. Can precisely mark the right point, even at at angle. An with my poorer eyesight, it was exactly what I needed.

This is an excellent marking tool for accurate measurement up to 6". The description, however is wrong. There are slots every 16th of an inch, and holes every 32nd as shown in the picture. There is NOTHING marking the 64ths! This is not a problem for me, it would be pretty tough to use a pencil, even .05mm to mark finer than 32nds but I just wanted to correct the description.

Also, the holes on either side are slightly out of line making me uneasy about the absolute accuracy when measuring from the very end. I may resort to "burning" the first inch like on a tape measure when wanting an absolute measurement.

Nice tool overall.

I think I will get the 6" T rule next...
