5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I was looking for...
I'm preparing to sell my house and this book is exactly what I wanted to help me figure out what I needed to do, what I could do, and what I shouldn't bother with. On top of it's rather useful information, it's highly readable. I was afraid it would be overly wordy or bogged down with real estate-y stuff, but it's an easy read for your casual non-DIYer home seller. I...

2.0 out of 5 stars Should be titled how to cut your losses
The premise of the book seems to be that you won't recover all of the money you spend on improvements let alone make any. The book references remodeling magazine as a source of obtaining a dollar cost and value added. Again, cost is always higher than value added.

Another fitting title might be "improve the value of your home by 100,000 dollars while...

I wouldn't recommend that you use this as your reference on your first flip or anything, but if you want to sell your house and prepare it as well as possible first, this book suits.

Moreover, it gives you practical tools and information for deciding which projects are worth doing (and which ones are not), and which ones to do first. Another fitting title might be "improve the value of your home by 100,000 dollars while spending 130,000 to do it!"

I strongly recommend that people read through the table of contents and possibily skim through it if you have the opportunity. Read one of the chapters and you'll see what I mean, then decide if it's right for you. Most of the chapters follow the same format with different projets. Unfortuately for me, I already bought it based on the amazing scores everyone else gave it.

This book neatly breaks down the pros and cons of "home improvement" projects that may or may not increase the value of your home. It's easy and a pleasure to read and crammed with valuable insight (e.g., let's just say that I'll think twice before installing an in-ground pool). I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars SUPERBO, November 16, 2004
This review is from: How to Increase the Value of Your Home: Simple, Budget-Conscious Techniques and Ideas That Will Make Your Home Worth Up to $100,000 More! (Paperback)
I used this book to help me with my new home purchase. This book provides details on how to make the most of your renovations, what key decisions you should make prior to starting the work and what improvements will be give you top dollar should you decide to sell.

For me, I was building a brand-new home and I wanted ideas on what styles were "in",a perspective on what buyers are looking for in today's market and what appliances give you a good return for your money.

The authors did a superb job in outlining all of this plus some. The book was so awesome I read it in one day! I have recently learned by following their advice and making upgrades I would have not thought of, the value of my home has gone up $50,000. I recommend this book for not only anyone looking to make renovations but for those in the market to buy a new or older home. KUDOS to the authors! Their hard work in research and dedication has proved to be a winning investment!

This is the second book I have read by Ms Lankarge and she continues to amaze me in how she is able to take a maze of problems and present solutions in a clear and understandable manner.
We read the book in order to help us look at the impact of potential upgrades to our house. What a time and money saver the book is. Easy to read and the recommendations were great ! Strongly recommend the book whether you are planning to sell your house or not.

This well thought out easy-to-read book provided me with many good ideas I have used in my real estate business. It was very helpful knowing exactly which home improvements will increase the value of my holdings and which won't. I recommend this book without reservation.
