Wonderful and incredible,

The sounds of Christmas - a wonderful time of the year. Some of the classics are here sung by Ella Fitzgerald, Bing Crosby, Burl Ives, The Boston Pops Orchestra along with some modern versions of songs by Vanessa Williams and Bond.I love the older versions of the classics. A few of the modern cuts I didn't care for. There are some songs on this cd that I had never heard before such as "The White Snows of Christmas", by the Kingston Trio and "Shepherd's Pipe Carol Choir", by Choir of St. John's College - two wonderful Christmas songs. Your spirit will be lifted by this double cd set.

Love this Christmas Album. Doesn't have everything, but darn close. Nice mix of styles and artists, really captures the feeling. I love Christmas Music, but am a bit picky, this album satisfies.

LOTS of good stuff here, lots of it from the 60s and 70s, even some OLD stuff, and some older carols, such as Carol of the Bells, and Still,Still,Still, and The Holly and the Ivy.Many prominent artists are included, with Luciano Pavarotti having 3 songs on one disc. Bing Crosby's White Christmas is here, naturally, but so are a great many other songs and carols, many instrumental,25 on each of the 2 CDs.I much enjoyed "Jingle Bell Rock" by Bond. I hated the original song from the very first time I heard it as a grade school girl. "Oh,come ON,Christmas is NOT about hugging and kissing and dancing and rock and roll music,it's about JESUS and SANTA CLAUS!" Time has done little to change my opinion, and so I was delighted to hear Bond reinterpret it beyond recognition. My personal favorite was "Christmas Bells" by Mantovani and his orchestra. I heard it many times in my childhood and youth at Christmastime, and always thought it was beautiful, but didn't ever know what its title was or who recorded it. So I stood there spellbound when it started playing, almost overcome with the delightful memories it comjured up. "Once in Royal David's City" is beautifully done, reminiscent of how Judy Collins recorded "Amazing Grace". It was recorded here by The Academy of St Martin in the Fields, and a soloist sings the first verse a capella. Then other voices and musical instruments start joining in,with each verse, and when finally they are singing "And at last our eyes shall see Him/Through His own redeeming love", the whole choir is singing, with an orchestra and organ accompanying,it brings on goosepimples and tears. It's the best Christmas album I ever heard.
