I don't recommend "Incredible Creatures That Defy Evolution" for one simple reason: While I agree with the conclusion of the work, it's basically some preacher's opinion with few facts (none conclusive) to back it up, even though the write-ups on it gave the impression that it was full of scientific evidence.
Let me say again, I agree with the opinion of the video. However, no opinion will ever change factual evidence. Yet, the biggest portion of the discussion of each animal was the preacher giving his opinion that he "didn't see how" the animal could have come about by evolution.
The film makers had a great opportunity to show by scientific evidence that evolution is impossible, but they offered very few facts, none of them conclusive. More complete research with more complete evidence would have made the case much more conclusively without the opinions.
"Unlocking The Mystery Of Life" doesn't consider as many animals, but it's a much better work, giving much more detailed evidence refuting evolution.

These DVD's generally will be reviewed in two "camps". Non-believers scoff and say it's not "scientific enough", believers praise them because we believe that God created EVERYTHING anyway, so we concur with the basic information in them. If you are a fellow believer, I trust that you'll like these. Our children (all under 10 years old) love them, they are informative enough and interesting enough to hold their attention. Highly recommend.

These videos provide excellent descriptions of the complexities of animal life, but the arguments about evolution are almost entirely religious, not science-based. The narrator cites God as the only answer to the question of how the diverse and complex structures and behaviors of animals have come about. For this reason, the videos are not suitable for use in science courses in public schools. They are better suited for use in some religious schools or churches.
The complexity of all forms of life is an extremely interesting subject and a challenging aspect of theories of evolution. One of the best treatments of the subject is in "Darwin's Black Box" by Michael Behe. In that book, published in 1996, Behe explained how the Darwinian process of random mutations and natural selection cannot produce certain complex structures that involve interdependent parts. That is an entirely rational, scientific criticism of Darwin's theory, not one that involves any supernatural or religious concepts. The producers of the "Incredible Creatures" videos would have made a much stronger case against Darwin if they had used Behe's argument instead of taking a religious approach.
Some of the critics of Behe and other scientists who question Darwin are also accused of having religious motives, mainly because they often use the term "intelligent design" in describing evolution. That term implies the existence of a "designer," which is often interpreted as a supernatural entity. However, the evidence of design does not require a supernatural source. Rather, the evidence of design is evidence of unknown factors, of undiscovered processes of nature. As such, these unknown processes offer exciting and potentially dramatic avenues for scientific research.

Thank you so much for this product. I love the way Jobe Martin presents these creatures and then how he presents the God of creation. Our God made a wonderful, fascinating world. There is no way these things could have evolved any more than an explosion in a print shop could have produced Webster's Unabridged Dictionary. Kids of all ages will love seeing these fascinating animals and hear the story behind their existence.

In the first sentence of the video the narrator distinguishes birds and fishes from animals as if birds and fishes were not two kinds of animals. Before long we see and hear an enormous red-facing gaffe about the placement of valves in a giraffe's neck when the dentist expert claims that these valves are in the arteries but of course they are in the veins as one would expect and as the technical literature reports them. A high school fact-checker could have corrected these and the many other credibility-crushing mistakes if the two adults had only asked for such help. Those two errors of fact occur in just the first few minutes of a several hour production. Perhaps I will post a sample of the other mistakes as I see and hear them. These are errors of fact that one can look up and check in the biology literature whether one is an evolutionist or a creationist instead.
Here's something else both funny and sad. The dentist narrator seems to have something like o.c. disorder or Tourette's syndrome with a desire to get many things backwards. Not only does he say arteries have valves when it's the giraffe's veins that have valves (I have the relevant journal articles before me), he says evolutionists believe life is 3.5 billion years old and that they believe the first cells are thought to have appeared 600 million years ago, but in fact the textbooks, including the one I use in my own university classes, give the CELLS as 3.5 billion years old and by 600 million years ago the cells of all the diverse kingdoms of life had long since appeared. This, like the other points mentioned above, is another "giraffe gaffe" demonstrating the incompetence of this poor misguided soul.
