4.0 out of 5 stars Good for casual infotainment. Not a lot of technical detail, April 20, 2005
This review is from: Incredible Creatures that Defy Evolution 1 (DVD-ROM)
I am a teacher certified in both the life sciences and the physical sciences. Yes, I have done the homework. I've taken the classes, read the books, listened in-depth to both sides of the argument, done countless hours of extra-curricular research, and am firmly a believer in creation. I say this to let you know that I am not just some fool spouting his unfounded beliefs or ignorant opinions. I'm talking about when it comes to evolution. I once read a comment by an evolutionist saying something to the effect of "If you cannot understand this sentance '(he gave a fairly technical definition of heredity)' then you should stay out of the argument." Well, I understood what he was saying so I thought I had better get into the argument. Thus, here is my review.

This video is great for the creation newcomer or someone with only a casual interest in the topic. I enjoy it for its entertainment value, and it does have good information. However, if you're looking for very specific data or tightly stitched arguments, this DVD is more of a spring board. It will give you some places to go, but not the acctual detailed information. You might not want to take only the information in this video to a seasoned evolution debater.

4.0 out of 5 stars First in a Great Series, June 26, 2005
By
This review is from: Incredible Creatures that Defy Evolution 1 (DVD-ROM)
"[W]hat can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse." So says the apostle Paul in the first chapter of his letter to the Romans. For the Christian, we see God's eternality and divinity displayed in all that He has made. We look at the world around us and know that design presupposes a Designer. But this is not clear to those who, by their worldview and their hatred of God, deny Him.

Incredible Creatures That Defy Evolution I is the first in a series of DVDs presenting animals that have features which evolution simply cannot explain. It is hosted by David Hames and features commentary by Dr. Jobe Martin, a former evolutionist who is now a convinced creationist. Dr. Martin is a capable, charismatic speaker whose excitement is contagious as speaks about some animals we are all too familiar with, and some most of us have probably never heard of. The consistent theme is that each of these animals has body parts or functions that could not possibly have evolved over time. There is no such thing as a partial lung, a partial heart or a partial liver. And dead animals do not evolve.

Take the giraffe. The giraffe requires an incredibly powerful heart to pump blood against gravity all the way to the top of that long neck. But in order to drink the giraffe has to lower his head. Under normal circumstances this simple act would cause such a rush of blood to the head that the animal would immediately have an aneurysm and die. The powerful pump would cause such pressure that it would quite literally blow his brains out. But the giraffe has some special features that allow for this. But what happens if a lion suddenly approaches? We would expect that the giraffe would quickly raise his head, run two steps, and fall down in a feint for lack of blood to his head. As the lion began to eat him, the giraffe would be thinking that he really needs to evolve some way of combatting this. But dead animals do not evolve. God saw this eventuality and designed the giraffe in such a way that he can immediately normalize his blood pressure. This is only one of ten or twelve examples provided by Dr. Martin. Each one is explained simply and convincingly. Some will make you laugh, some will probably cause your jaw to drop, and all of them will cause you to appreciate God just a little bit more.

If I had to find an area where the DVD could do with improvement I would suggest that the presentation could benefit from more video and less photography. I have been spoiled by the amazing quality of video produced by National Geographic and many other studios, and would liked to have seen a little more video of that quality in Incredible Creatures That Defy Evolution I. Parenthetically, I will point out that further episodes in this series (reviews coming soon) address this concern.

I believe my five year old son enjoyed this presentation every bit as much as I did. It is ideal for the entire family. Watch it and I'm sure you will react the same way I did - with awe towards the Creator who made such a variety of creatures and designed each one with such detail and intricacy. He truly does reveal Himself through His Creation.

This video is not an apologetic for defending Creationism, but neither is it intended to be such. It simply and straightforwardly presents some incredible creatures which stand as evidence of God's power and divinity. It would make a perfect addition to a church, school or public library. And of course it would be a welcome addition to your personal library. Well-produced, informative and lots of fun, I highly recommend this DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars We love it, May 19, 2005
By
This review is from: Incredible Creatures that Defy Evolution 1 (DVD-ROM)
Our son loves this DVD. It is presented really for children I think, although adults will enjoy the humor and the small bits of information about the creatures and how it is simply impossible that they could have evolved.

The man who gives the descriptions of the animals is a former evolutionist who was convinced of Intelligent Design by a close and careful study of various creatures using the "ideals" of evolution. What he found is what most Christians already know, there is no way that all these beautiful and wonderfully complex creatures could have just happened to get that way.

If you are looking for scientific argument or a lot of dry supposed facts, this is not the DVD for you. As I said at the beginning, this DVD is really for young children. It is taught at about a 2nd grade level.

4.0 out of 5 stars party lines, July 6, 2005
This review is from: Incredible Creatures that Defy Evolution 1 (DVD-ROM)
Reviews of this video will be split along party lines, those that believe there is a God and those that believe there isn't.
Those that believe there is a God will use this video to show the magnificent design not luck that created several insects and animals. Those that believe there is no God will have you believe that a tornado can pass through a junk yard and completely assemble a 747 ready to fly with fuel in the tank. They will say that the universe evolved over millions of years and started from a "big bang" which for years they've said was from gasses mixing in the nothingness. Lately scientists have said that the "big Bang" may have been from liquids mixing in the nothingness. So where did THEIR gasses or liquids come from?
This videotape will support those that believe with several examples that luck had nothing to do with it. No videotape will bring around somone who has purposefully hardened their heart and mind. That softening comes from somewhere else that they won't recognize. Buy the DVD and enjoy it. I've watched it numerous time alone and with friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful to Watch!!!, December 24, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Incredible Creatures that Defy Evolution 1 (DVD-ROM)
If you ever wanted a tool, to share with evolutionist theory friends, this one is great. It is not intimidating but very thought provoking. The facts presented within this film are undeniable. Even a creature such as the giraffe, proves evolution incorrect. I had never known, until now, enough about them for them to help me dispell the evolutionist viewpoint. However, now it makes 100% sense and is a very interesting fact about them to know!
This movie is high in quality, very well produced and the photography is wonderful. Makes it easy to watch and carry on with enthusiasm to the very end. Then you wish it wasn't over ... The narration is both interesting and entertaining. It is not a dull and dry scientific lingo movie that is both hard to understand and even harder to bear, but is very well done, to keep all ages attention to the very last word. The scientific points made are to the point and play off almost like trivia, as it is all so interesting and about many animals you thought you knew well, but didn't and about other animals you may never have heard of.
We loved this movie and will watch it many more times, I am sure. It is one you will want to share with friends and family, when they come to visit. Get out the popcorn and enjoy over and over. Small children will even love it, if they do not understand the scientific implications in it, as the photos of the animals are so much fun for them.
This will equip your students with solid information that they will be able to use again and again. There is nothing worse than believing something but not knowing why or having and "proof" to back it up ... now they will be equipped with a lot of solid evidence, and it will be easily remembered. This is simply magnificent.
As you watch you will over and over again be amazed at the amazing creations of God. His handiwork is shown so close up and personal in this movie. You will sit in awe, thinking of this Creator, that took the time and thought to plan out such detail in His creation. A definite WOW moment will be had, when experiencing this film for the first time

5.0 out of 5 stars ><::::> My kids love it and Dr. Martin is an enthusiastic teacher., January 20, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Incredible Creatures that Defy Evolution 1 (DVD-ROM)
Its silly to think that the entire arguement for intelligent design will be presented in a video that caters to a younger audience (see negative review...). So if you are looking for all the evidence seek other books, videos etc, and ask the head of the world's largest fossil museum in Britain why he admits that out of MILLIONS of fossils he cannot present one "missing link." In the meantime, sit down with the kids and enjoy this quality production that teaches you a great deal about animals and raises the question about how certain traits could have evolved, and then do a search for "irreducible complexity" and learn some more about the issue before you quash the concept. For a more grown-up treatment of the subject buy "Unlocking the Mystery of Life" which shows a group of scientists who "evolved" to intelligent design.

This DVD is truly amazing. I put it in my DVD player, and it played perfectly. This is irrefutable proof that this DVD and my DVD player were both made by God. Thank you, God!

I apologize for reusing my review of his book, but it fits just as well:
Just because one man (or any man) can't yet conceive how certain creatures evolved doesn't mean they didn't. 1,000 years ago Christians (and everyone else) thought the earth was flat, not just the sun but the whole universe revolved around it, and demons caused illness. Thankfully we've come a long way since then, and will go further still; science doesn't claim to have all the answers, but more are constantly being found.

Martin is a dentist (though he did get his bachelor's in biology), not an paleontologist, geologist, or evolutionary biologist - and it shows. Buy this book if you want a young earth creationist worldview, but don't expect anything that will debunk the FACT of evolution.

Remember the law of gravity? In scientific terms (the way the term is used to refer to evolution) it, too, is "only a theory".
