GREAT FUN with this POORLY RENDERED game,

The title says it all. Go around and bust up stuff.
I have an 8-year-old daughter and a 5-year-old son, and they both love this game. I like it pretty good, too. LACK OF STORY? No big deal. The real fun for these kiddies is running around and smashing stuff. (Although, the 5-year-old prefers to stay in the training ground, where he can smash stuff without police shooting guns and missiles at him). MINI-GAMES. Inside the game are various "sub-missions," which are mini-games to play in order to earn points. They are separate from the main "plot" of saving Dr. Banner or getting the bad guy. These missions are fun (carry as many cars as possible to the top of a building within a specified time), sometimes silly (hold an inflated balloon character - thing Pillsbury Doughboy/Michelin Man - above your head, jump off a building, and hang-glide to a circle of flares), and sometimes nerve bending (protect a building from marauding tanks for two minutes). FUN, SILLY FUN: The best way to summarize this game is to say that my kids were frequently laughing and giggling while playing this game. The violence is "cartoon violence," such as when Hulk can pick up a car, rip it in half, smash the halves into "steel boxing gloves," and then go around SUPER-smashing things with his "Steel Fists." Or, the soldiers' screams of "I can't feel my legs!" or "It's all over now!" when Hulk picks up a soldier and gets ready to smash, slam, or throw him. I am confident that most kids will understand that you're not supposed to do go around bustin' up stuff in real life the way Hulk does in this game. WHO CARES ABOUT BAD GRAPHICS? The graphics are half-wit. Many objects are semi-transparent, in that you can see right through them. Also, many objects (including Hulkster himself) sometimes go right through other objects. For example, when running close to a building, you'll lose half of Hulk's body inside the wall, while the rest of him continues running down the sidewalk. Same with objects he is carrying. Another example: When fighting tanks, Hulk will sometimes pass right through them. But, if you are looking for a game that values fun over artistry (and my kids do), then it is a minor annoyance, and not much of a problem. EASY TO LEARN TO PLAY. Perhaps the greatest thing about this game is its simplicity. Most commands are single-button commands, which means that little kids can do a decent job of executing the various moves. Try teaching a 5-year old how to press square-triangle-square, while holding down the R1 button, and you'll appreciate the "unsophistication" of this game. Fun. Simple. Shallow. Entertaining.

Just pop this bad-boy in your PS2 console and go to town. Personally, I am the type of guy who doesn't bode well with intricate, drawn-out storylines in video games. I don't typically have the time to complete every mission and finish the game. This is where Hulk appeals to me. While it has a Grand Theft Auto-style, mission-based storyline, it's FREE-ROAMING environment makes it a blast to play. I enjoy roaming the various environments with no real strategy and wreaking as much havoc as I possibly can. I would recommend this game for the following reasons: 1) it has exceptional "replayability" value; 2) for those who enjoy a linear storyline with side missions, this game satisfies that qualm; 3) it is ever-so-similar to the Grand Theft Auto series, which I happen to love; 4) the graphics, particularly the destruction frames and explosions, are splendid; 5) there are a plethora of moves to be garnered and mastered, all adding significant value to the unique gameplay; 6) the audio/sound is gripping; and 7) it's just plain fun to be essentially invincible, ripping through town and causing pandemonium. I applaud Marvel and Sierra for developing a highly-addictive and entertaining game. Kudos, guys. I only wish I had this type of gameplay when I was growing up. Please feel free to disagree with my opinion; let us compare opinions, invite a few more points of view, and debate, like the humans we are.
